RIP Bernie Hamilton

Burly character actor who played in a few movies and guest starred on a number of TV series but is best known for being the police captain on Starsky and Hutch. It was a standard role but was exceptional because it was the first time in which a black character on a major television series was portrayed as being the boss/superior/supervisor of white characters (and the racial situation on the show was never made an issue as far as I can recall).
