I can tell you that from the point of view of his constituency, he is an excellent representative. He stays closely in touch with us, and when he votes against the popular will, such as on the Gonzales confirmation and increased fuel efficiency standards, he regularly appears at "town hall" meetings to provide explanations and take his lumps in person.

I can tell you that he is hugely popular because people feel that he is on their side, and despite some votes that have some pundits saying that he is a poor choice for Interior, that he is on the side of the environment.

I can tell you that one of the reasons people feel he's on their side is because he never forgets where he came from. He carries that sense of always remembering where he grew up and how hard he worked, that sense of "there but for the Grace of God go I." So everyone is treated with friendliness and respect.

I can tell you that the earmarks I know about have been broadly beneficial, not the sort that line a few pockets.

I can tell you that one of things that got him elected Senator was his time in the Colorado Attorney General's Office. He demonstrated intelligence and excellence, and people felt he was on their side. He did not shrink from difficult prosecutions. I can tell you it is my humble opinion that Obama tapped him for that reason -- so he'll clean up the joint at Interior.

I can tell you that he would have absolutely no problem getting re-elected in two years.

I can tell that I've met him in person several times, both on the campaign trail and in his "town hall" meetings, and I have been favorably impressed with his service, his willingness to answer difficult questions, and his obvious hard work in studying issues and formulating positions.

I can tell you that nobody's perfect, and it's my opinion that for Interior, Salazar is as close as Obama can come. I can tell you that a lot of my local acquaintances believe the same way I do, and some (fewer) believe the opposite and would prefer other candidates from the short list.

Thank you for your insight. I hope he does well in DC.
