This will give his replacement seniority over the other incoming senators in January. If he or she stays on the Senate for a couple of terms, it could have a big effect as far as committee assignments are concerned.

Only 3 other presidents have been elected while members of Congress- Garfield, Harding and Kennedy. None of them participated in the work of the Senate after the election, mostly because the Senate was not in session after the election.

I know there were at least 3 VPs elected while members of Congress - Humphrey, Nixon, Gore, thre might have been one or two others (Alben Barkley?). None of them participated in the work of congress after election, either. Expect Biden to resign fairly soon, although there is a new governor elected in Delaware- when Biden resigns will determine which governor picks Biden's successor. Biden's successor will only be in for 2 years, when there will be an election to determine who serves the rest of the 6-year term.
I am about 25% sure of this.
