First of all, it should be stated that this is NOT a true story. At least as far as I know.
The folks at Celador have clearly not taken the easy road to depicting Millionaire on the big screen; however it is a fascinating look at life in Mumbai, and a touching story about ..."sigh"...true love.
Be prepared for some rather brutal storylines (some were walking out of the screening in Plano, Texas last night), and Danny Boyle's off-kilter editing and camera angles are bound to cause motion sickness if you're not prepared. Still, this is a well made character-driven movie with some great acting (particularly by children) and it took me someplace I'd never been.
Fox Searchlight is trying to sell it as this year's Juno or Little Miss Sunshine; I don't think it has the "feel-good" quality of either of those, but it is definitely worth a look, particularly for fans of our beloved WWTBAM.
