This is as low an ad as I've ever seen (Political)

Living in North Carolina, I've been subject to the really nasty Senate race between Elizabeth (wife of Bob) Dole and State Senator Kay Hagan. This week, Dole started to run an ad saying that Hagan had accepted money from a group called Godless Americans - an Atheist PAC. Here's the full story -

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/20 ... uses-stir/

Bringing up the charge is bad enough, but the ad has been manipulated to show a picture of Hagan with an unidentified (but apparently supposedly Hagan) woman saying "There is no God!" In North Carolina, especially rural North Carolina, there are very few things worse that you could say about a person's character than this. I have watched politics for a long time, and I don't think I have ever seen negative politicking reach as low as this.

The thing is, I think the whole ad has blown up in Dole's face. I think people in North Carolina are so sick of attack ads from this campaign, the Presidential campaign, the gubernatorial campaign, and all the state and even local races, that when it has hit this level, they're saying enough is enough and turning on Dole

As a resident of the other side of the Tarheel state I'm longing for the days when we weren't a battleground state - I have had at 50 pieces of Presidential campaign mail in the last 10 days - plus an equal amount of other stuff.

I think the voter information groups are even worse than the campaigns (other than Dole)

The local garbagewrapper claims that they don't run attack ads, but somehow a half-page ad featuring the unpleasant financial details of a Dem candidate's divorce was run, featuring the details in half-inch type. The Dems called upon all the Rep candidates to repudiate the ad and renounce such tactics, but they refused. Two Rep voters have answered the call and publicly announced switching their vote to the Dem. I hope there are more who are doing it without saying anything.

The optimistic, benefit-of-the-doubt part of me believes the garbagewrapper, that it was a matter of new staff unfamiliar with acceptable ad and editorial guidelines. The cynical part of me knows how much that ad cost and that the paper's account representatives get paid on commission.

And I love living in a swing state! The excitement is palpable.

All you gotta do to get rid of the calls, except robo calls which you just hang up on, is vote. Then you sit back and enjoy the excitement of Presidential candidates coming to your state again and again.
