Re: Richmond Flying Squirrels Stretch Run Thread
Looks like I was wrong about MLB rules since the article quotes MLB, not minor league, rules.

Divine Intervention Sends Squirrels to Playoffs
Hodges Homers a Pitch Prior to Early Completion
ALTOONA, PA - Moments after Wes Hodges delivered a low-flying solo-home run to right field in the top of the eighth inning, heavy rains rendered Blair County Ballpark unplayable, sending the Flying Squirrels (76-66) to the post-season with a rain-shortened, 2-1, victory over the Altoona Curve (64-77). Although the Curve never batted in the eighth inning, the Squirrels were declared the winner of the ballgame and in turn the wild-card due to Rule 4.12 in the 2011 MLB Official Rule Book.
Rule 4.12, (b), (4): Any suspended game not completed prior to the last scheduled game between the two teams during the championship season shall become a called game. If such game becomes a called game and has progressed far enough to become a regulation game, and one team is ahead, the team that is ahead shall be declared the winner.

Thanks to the remnants of Lee, the weather forecast is worse tomorrow in both Altoona and Bowie. So it would have been tough to complete a suspended game or a one-game playoff.
Still lots of rain forecast for Harrisburg on Wednesday, but diminishing from storms to showers, rain from 90% to 60%. Harrisburg plays on City Island in the middle of the Susquehanna River. Flooding can be an issue, although flooding is not listed as a risk until late Thursday or Friday. Wet grounds caused postponement of games earlier in the year.

One of the most bizarre and improbable endings imaginable to a baseball game sent the Flying Squirrels to their first Eastern League playoff berth Monday afternoon.
"It's a little weird to end the regular season like that," Richmond first baseman Wes Hodges said. "But we'll take it."
It was more than just a little weird.
The Squirrels, the visiting team, won on a walk-off hit.
That's right -- the visiting team.
That's as rare as it gets.
