I call it they were fired, on-line, not in person, Christmas morning.

Sounds to me like they were given two weeks notice of their being let go then (assuming a blank schedule actually means "yes, every other subsequent schedule will be just like this one, can you take the hint?"). I've seen temporary help at Mecca sent packing with exactly zero days notice before....

Most places nowadays that lay people off nowadays do so with zero days notice, plus they give them an escort out of the building to make sure the employees don't take/sabotage anything on their way out.

Of course, since so few layoffs nowadays occur without at least signs that it's possible, most employees wind up taking precautions anyway just in case something does happen (and I'm not necessarily talking about stealing things but more about making customer/contact lists; getting copies of forms/writing samples, etc., and other things that might be helpful in future job endeavors.

We love to nitpick on the Bored, but I don't think Buff was trying to imply a literal layoff on Christmas Day. Rather, he was alleging that, after using the hope of a permanent position in a (deliberately deceptive?) effort to motivate their temporary employees, they indirectly took away that hope on Christmas.

So perhaps a better metaphor would be discovering there is no Santa, but there is coal in your stocking.

Didn't mean to leave you hanging. Tonight I have...........................swollen ankles, dropped arches, northern parts that have headed south (without the rest of me) and maybe a touch of apoplexy.

Yep, a hot time in the old town tonight!

Tell me more, I'm intrigued...
Spoiler
I would have sworn that was the exact quote from an ancient episode of "The Simpsons," but I just looked it up. The exchange actually was:

Homer: I gotta find a date for my big, fat, snotty sister-in-law, Selma.
Barney: I'm intrigued. What does she look like?
Homer: Like my wife's ugly sister.
Barney: Wheel her in, Homer. I'm not picky.
A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five.

I would be ducking and covering if I were you, if you can move while laughing.
Well, then

LOL...........Just makes you tremble, huh?

Tonight’s bounty from The Evil Empire:

8 garments & 4 pcs junk jewelry - EE’s “regular” price was $459.87. I paid $139.24 as the evil sale was 50% off the already marked down 50%. Highest individual “regular” price was $79, lowest was $19.98. The most I paid for any one item was $19.75, lowest was $4.99 which is less than I would have paid for the “rolled back price” of that “other” Evil Empire.

Now God knows I didn’t need any new clothes (they were just gravy) so the clothes sale is not what got me to stop in at the EE. Nope it was an advertisement in today’s paper for a Black and Decker toaster oven and the extra 15% off housewares products that didn’t fall under their exclusions. And guess what they were out of……………oh, you guessed. But crap, since I was already there (and Buff had pm’d me his Macy’s CC number) I felt I ought to make a few “sale” purchases and see how far I could stretch that 15% discount. Total regular price was $289.00, I paid $137.00. My 15% coupon got me $5.63 off (slightly better than Fanny’s sharp staub), but didn’t apply to the lighted mirror or the Martha Stewart blanket. Now in Martha’s behalf she did have her 100% cotton blanket marked down from $110 (as if) to 43.99.

The evil bastards.............I was helpless.

As a matter of fact, I do. And lookee what I found:

http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/cuis ... slotId%3D6

Just tell Macy's to send it to DK's place. I'm on their speed shipping list.
