Re: TNPG Question Thread
I guess I should look on the good side of all this foolishness, don't know that I have the time to make a trip to NYC anyway and if I did get there, well it would take a miracle to beat the young whippersnappers at the fast finger. It is fun to play this phone game again tho.
Q #1 - Place historical events in order they happened starting with the earliest
1. Formation of Jamestown
2. South Carolina acquired
3. Paul Revere's ride
4. FBI founded
1,3, 2, 4
Q #2
Lakes in geographical order starting in the east
1. Great Salt Lake
2. Tahoe
3. Okeechobee
4. Pontchartrain
3, 4, 1, 2
Authors in order of birth
1. Patricia Cromwell
2. Brent Easton Ellis
3. Homer
4. Laura Ingalls Wilder
3, 4, 1, 2
Tropical regions in order of rainfall, starting with the driest
1. Savannah
2. Desert
3. Rain Forest
4. Steppe
I said 2, 1, 4, 3 and got sad Fred, have not researched the correct order yet. Just did my research and I guess I switched savannah and steppe, so it should be 2, 4, 1, 3

Are you certain of this? I'm not sure what they meant by South Carolina "acquired" but I'm having difficulty thinking of any meaning that has it occurring after Paul Revere's ride. --Bobjayhawker536 wrote:Q #1 - Place historical events in order they happened starting with the earliest

Re: TNPG Question Thread
Trust me, I blinked twice when they said it, thought what in the world do you mean by that? They might have said formed instead of acquired, but I don't think I would have had that "huh" moment with the word formed. Although it might have been some other word, it was a strange one to use in this context, I do remember that at the end I determined it would have to fit in the third spot.Bob78164 wrote:Are you certain of this? Maybe they were referring to the date when South Carolina ratified the Constitution? --Bobjayhawker536 wrote:Trust me, I blinked twice when they said it, thought what in the world do you mean by that? Q2. Put these animal researchers in order of birth, from the most recent

Q3. Put these movies in order, starting with the most recent
1. He's Just Not That Into You
2. The Holiday
3. Four Weddings and A Funeral
4. Bridget Jones' Diary
Q4!. Put these Japanese social classes in order, starting with the highest
1. Farmer
2. Merchant
3. Samurai

So that is what a Q4 looks like! Maybe tomorrow I can see a Q5!

Two problems here. First, I ended up going what I thought was lowest to highest. Second, I had no clue. I said 1243. That was wrong. According to Wikipedia, Farmer is higher than either Merchant or Aritsan, so I would have had it wrong anyway. I assume Samurai is the highest.

Re: TNPG Question Thread
Well, here goes another exercise in futility with Fred.
1. Put these words in order to make the title of a famous jazz composition-when I heard this I thought, "what?" Then he said 1. train 2. A 3. the 4. Take. It turned out to be 4321. EZ.
Question 2 was a history question-something I'm supposed to be good at. I had to put these historical figures in order by birth, starting with the EARLIEST. 1. Shakespeare, 2. Columbus 3. Einstein 4. Aristotle. I wrote 4213 but I think I reversed Columbus and Shakespeare and punched 4123 instead.

same song, different verse.
Missed a Q2 I shoulda known:
Order units of measurement by smallest
Quart/Pint/Bushel/Peck
did not really know what a peck was --- even though after the fact I should have figured it out....
Oh, Q1 was ordering states East to West starting in NY (huh?)
Alabama/Alaska/Arizona/Arkansas
At this point, I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact it's not going to happen for me this go around.

I would have been misled by the saying "a bushel and a peck." I've always assumed that it was phrased that way because the bushel is the most significant digit. I've learned something. Thanks. --Bobgsn309 wrote:same song, different verse.

Bushel is the biggest. When I first typed it in I even typed it in wrong! Had to go back and edit it but it was just a minute or two tops. Sorry if I misled. You're thought is right.
Just an aside: how many nights is this now that I've gotten a question not seen here before? I guess too few people are playing now for us to assume we've seen everything, but hadn't seen that one or the guitar question for the night before, and no one else reported getting the two Q5's I missed.

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I seem to remember 1 or 2 occasions in the very old phone game where it was (or was claimed to be). But wow, that sux.

Re: TNPG Question Thread
I'm starting to enter the sixth phase of grief: acceptance. I keep guessing questions right that I really don't know, only to miss the next question which should be in my wheelhouse.
1. Put these words of a nursery rhyme in the correct order:
1. Rain rain

3 some other day

I'd like to blame it on the absolutely horrible pronunciation, but considering jai (or someone else) had this exact question earlier and posted it in this thread, I have no excuse. In any case, the correct order should be 1423

I was going through questions I got when I played the old prime-time game and I got this correct:
Q2 out of 3 (which I would think is similar to the third of five):
1. Morehouse College
2. University of New Haven
3. University of New Orleans
4. University of Richmond
So they substituted Pitt for Richmond. I think it is a lot harder to figure out that Pittsburgh is south of New Haven than know New Haven-Richmond-Atlanta-New Orleans. Same thing for West to East: Annapolis vs West Point. I think they did north to south before.
