Sorry about that, the phrase 'the other 3 artificial sweeteners' made me think that you were including it as a fourth.

The National Sauce in Costa Rica is a mix of cilantro, cumin, and something else -- garlic or oregano or pepper, or maybe all three. I don't remember.

There must not be very many people there with the soap gene. It's on every table.

These posts were great. So much cilantro controversy! Who knew? Websites! Haikus!! Has Oprah taken a stance?

So I brought the subject up to one of my sillier friends, a pro-cilantron. She isn't buying the gene theory and suggests that cilantro haters are receiving karmic payback for being very, very naughty children- after all, why are they so familiar with the flavor of soap, anyway? Things that make you go hmmm.

Ooh! I like this word.

I had a Southwestern Stew at Moosewood last night, with cilantro in it. I didn't taste any soap, so I guess I'm in the pro-cilantron camp. 8)

As a child, I was forced to swallow a lot of soap. (I know that you probably don't believe it, but I had a potty mouth as child!)

I don't think that clilantro tastes like soap and I know from first-hand experience.

Next time your mom stops by for a visit you should load up her stewed prunes with cilantro. Yum!

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I adore the taste of cilantro (in guacamole etc.) but it makes my tongue erupt in bumps for a day or so.
