Re: $4.15
It's at least partly in play, but speculation is also involved. The problem is that, thanks to Enron's powerful friends in Congress (and, yes, the presidency), we have no way of knowing who is involved. The so-called "Enron loophole" (because it was added to an energy bill at the request of Enron) exempts energy speculators who trade electronically from any sort of US regulation) is the cause. John McCain favors retaining the "Enron loophole" largely on the advice of his economic advisor, Phil Gramm, who, as it turns out, was the person who added the loophole while his wife was serving on Enron's board of directors.Flybrick wrote:Who will you blame after January 2009? At what point does it become the incumbent's fault?
Finally, just how powerful do you think the President, any President, is?
The fact that China is adding 25,000 cars PER DAY to their highways and thus, along with a booming economy in India with commensurate upturn in oil/gas use, has nothing to do with the current price of gas?
A stronger demand with no increase in supply (even minor declines due to Nigeria, et al) and you wonder why prices rise? I'm not an expert so I don't know how much the speculators' market is affecting the price, but I sure do think the old supply and demand model is in play.
