"Tariffs won't work"
* Tariffs work
"Don't like that Tariffs work. Also, some people made money and some people lost money in the stock market, so Orange Man bad."
I think it would be fairer to say that the threat of tariffs works - depending, of course, upon what is meant by "works". During the campaign Trump said that tariffs would be used to help pay for child care and allow for lower taxes. But it all that is happening is that a threat is levied and then removed, I don't see how the tariffs "worked".
Seems to me that what HAS been accomplished could easily have been done through other means.
But they never have. That's the difference.
Here's some of the things that HAVE been accomplished in, what? two weeks?
Mexico caved
Panama caved
Colombia caved
Venezuela caved
Canada panicking
Mass deportations
Hostages are home
DEI programs ended
Bureaucracy slashed
FBI purges are underway
USAID funding cancelled
Gender ideology eliminated
DOGE already saved billions
51 intel agents lost clearance
Border crossings drop by 93%
Reservoirs filled up in California
You may not agree with these things, but the vast majority of your fellow Americans voted for the guy who said very clearly that he was going to do these things. So I would advise you to sit back and see how it comes out in 4 years.
Unless your side decides to do a real insurrection.
In summary, as I have pointed out, using your list above:
Mexico agreed to something they had already done.
Panama agreed to do something "in a year or two," with no written agreement.
Colombia accepted some migrants
which they had done weekly under the Biden administration, as well. They just objected to the military flights.
Not sure how Venezuela caved. They appear to be committing to less than they did under the Biden administration. I'm open to sources proving me wrong, though.
Strangely, Canada doesn't seem to be panicking, at all. They do seem to be mightily pissed off at America, though.
Deportations are actually less for these two weeks than they were for several weeks in the Biden administration. And deportations under Biden
were higher than Trump's first term.
One American hostage has been released from Gaza. The cease-fire is holding, and Trump deserves a lot of credit for the deal.
DEI programs have not been ended. A bunch of websites have had their wording changed. Trump doesn't even know that he is the one who allowed the most recent change to air traffic control policy to proceed.
Bureaucracy has not been slashed. An oligarch has locked a bunch of people out of their jobs, and taken way too much control of US governmental systems. But the amount of money that is going to be spent defending lawsuits against unlawful firings is going to dwarf any savings.
FBI purges? Ah, yes, I remember the good old days when Republicans were the party of law and order. Good luck with that, by the way. See my comment immediately above.
USAID funding does appear to be canceled, although we can disagree on the lawfulness of it, and whether that's a good thing or not. As has been noted by others, it's a major blow to US soft power.
Gender ideology is not a thing. And as far as eliminating it, see my comment on DEI above.
DOGE has not saved billions (I assume you mean dollars). We can argue this further when the balance sheets are finally available in a year or two. My guess is that average citizens like you and me won't be able to access them, though, given the lack of transparency so far.
intel agents may have lost clearance, and there's no doubt that Trump can do this legally. How it's a good thing without evidence of malfeasance, I'm not sure.
93% Where the heck are you getting your information? Maybe you're talking about from December 2023 to now? But most of that time is Biden's time, not Trump's. And I can't find any more recent information than
August 2024. And all of those numbers are down the same or more than your own self-reported 93%.
The reservoirs in California. You're joking, right? Trump ordered the Army Corps of Engineers to release water from two reservoirs that don't come anywhere close to servicing Los Angeles County (that's where the fires actually were.) Instead, that water will
likely be wasted when farmers were depending on it.
Got anything else?
