Okay, I'll be the lone voice for Patriots Nation.
First of all, great game by the Giants. They are the better team and they certainly deserved to win. That was one of the better Super Bowls because of the tough defense both teams (especially the Giants) played. No one's going to look back and say that the officials were awful (SB40) or the weather played a part (SB 41) or the QBs were awful (SBs 40/41).
Brady took a pounding and still managed to put his team in a position to win. It took a dropped interception by Samuel, some great passing by Eli (how did he avoid the sack?) and the most incredible catch in Super Bowl history to derail the Pats express. Manning's throw was a late floater over the middle (3 big no nos) that was practically Favrevian. It worked and it may be the stuff of legends.
I know most of you don't like the Patriots or their coach and that's understandable. Beliichick has shown an arrogance that is unsurpassed. He rarely seems to enjoy himself and he comes off as a first-rate a-hole (yes, America, we see it, too). If had to choose a neighbor, I'd take Tom Coughlin in a second. If I had to choose a head coach, I'd take Bill the Thrill (altough his star has diminished based on recent events both real and imagined).
No, they are not one of the greatest teams of all time, but they did find 18 ways to win. Don't you sit there every week and hope your team wins? Every week! Of course you do. These guys did it. It was a great thing to witness. Until yesterday.
Coming into this game there was no sense of entitlement. No destiny. Most of us could see that they were slipping and the rest of the teams were catching up quickly.
C'mon, men, just one more game! Find a way. One more!
But they couldn't do it.
So, America, enjoy your newest sweethearts. They deserve all the accolades and parades and kudos you can throw their way.
Then comes the hard part. The Giants become the marked team. Sunday night games. Monday night games. In the cross-hairs every week.
It's a long way down.
The Pats will reload. The deadwood will be gone. Fresh horses and all.
You'll still hate the team. Still hate the coach. (Hey, some of us fans are okay. Really!)
Enjoy your run, Giants fans. You deserve it.
By the way, having seen every game Tom Brady has played in as a pro, this has to be the lamest, most uninformed post I have read on this board:
Simple. He simply showed that he's an average quarterback. His stats look good only because he's had receivers who can run after they catch a 2 yard pass. As for the long ball, he's weak as hell, and only has had success when he's got a receiver (like Moss) who can run under his airballs.
Shut down the receivers, you automatically shut down Brady.
I can't even read it and keep a straight face.
