I dunno when you changed your avatar, Fan. It's 8:45PM central here now and I'm just seeing it. Comes under that "priceless" category I do believe.

Both are correct - "Trekkie" refers to the mindless, slavishly drooling fans depicted in the SNL sketch and lampooned in "Galaxy Quest". "Trekker" is used for those who enjoy the series without obsessing over details and perceived continuity errors.
fantine33 wrote:Are you like me? If you’re flipping channels and come across William Shatner counting down the 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders are you compelled to sit down and watch, no matter where you came in or how many times you’ve seen it before? No? You’re not like me? Well, you’re going to be at a disadvantage then, aren’t you?

I don’t want to hear about what constitutes a OHW, or how some group actually had another song that hit #93 on the Hip Hot Hits of Bangladesh chart. These are all directly from the show so, if you’re got a beef, take it up with Shatner. Ha!

Okay, I’ll give you the artist, you give me the song (I read this over 6 times to make sure I wrote it out correctly).

1. Starland Vocal Band

2. Musical Youth

3. Falco

4. Brownsville Station

5. Norman Greenbaum

QOD: Jimi Hendrix, a One Hit Wonder? He only made the (U.S) Top 40 once, and it was a cover at that. What was the song?

5 Point Bonus: Who wrote and originally recorded it?

5 Point Bonus Bonus: Sadly, I could not use my man Tone-Loc here, because he had TWO hits! They were both co-written by this man, a OHW himself (so he did better for Tone than he did for himself. Ha!)
OK, I was really hoping for Trek-related questions, but we get what we get, so onward.
Spoiler
1. Afternoon Delight - this group was John Denver's backup group, IIRC.
2. NAC
3. NAC
4. Smokin' in the Boys' Room
5. Spirit in the Sky

QoD - I'm tempted to play it safe, but what the heck - "Hey, Joe" was the cover that put Hendrix into the Top 40.

5 point bonus #1 - No clue

5 point bonus #2 - Not even a glimmer of an idea.
Whew!

It looks like I should have STAYED CLAM on the QoD, if everyone else is right.

Thank God this wasn't about Star Trek! You could have just given me the zero rather than have me earn it...

1. Starland Vocal Band

Aftrenoon Delight (A total stinker. Weren't the Danoff's in cahoots with John Denver....?)

2. Musical Youth

Gah! Can't remember!

3. Falco

Rock Me, Amadeus

4. Brownsville Station

Can't remember, encore.

5. Norman Greenbaum

Spirit in the Sky

QOD: Jimi Hendrix, a One Hit Wonder? He only made the (U.S) Top 40 once, and it was a cover at that. What was the song? Not gonna WAG here...

5 Point Bonus: Who wrote and originally recorded it?

Francis Scott Key :P

Or is it Trekker? I can’t remember the politically correct term.

I thought it would be fun to see how many people were thrilled v. how many were chagrined over how the title related to the topic. Looks like it was about split.

Snoopy, I really didn't know which one was correct. I have seen two Star Trek episodes in my entire life. Or maybe two entire Star Trek episodes in my life. Ha!

Marley, your false advertising claim is denied. Isn't Shatner like a god to you people? And by 'a god', I mean Larry Bird.

Littlebeast, if I thought I could get away with it, I'd do a solid week of One Hit Wonders!

1. Starland Vocal Band

AFTERNOON DELIGHT I don't think they were John Denver's back up band, but Bill and Taffy Danoff wrote Take Me Home, Country Roads with him (and maybe Leaving on a Jet Plane, I'm not sure)

2. Musical Youth

PASS THE DUTCHIE Changed from the original Pass the Coochie, because they didn't think little kids should be singing about the gange.

3. Falco

ROCK ME, AMADEUS Fly and LB were correct in that After the Fire had the US hit with Der Kommisar.

4. Brownsville Station

SMOKIN' IN THE BOYS' ROOM The QOD was originally about what group had their first top 10 hit with a cover of this, but I couldn't think of interesting follow ups for bonus points. And you know how I do love my bonus points!

5. Norman Greenbaum

SPIRIT IN THE SKY In regards to hypocrites and Jews, I always took the lyrics to be facetious.

QOD: Jimi Hendrix, a One Hit Wonder? He only made the (U.S) Top 40 once, and it was a cover at that. What was the song?

ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER

5 Point Bonus: Who wrote and originally recorded it?

BOB DYLAN The second most fabulous person to ever come from Hibbing, Minnesota

5 Point Bonus Bonus: Sadly, I could not use my man Tone-Loc here, because he had TWO hits! They were both co-written by this man, a OHW himself (so he did better for Tone than he did for himself. Ha!)[/quote]

MARVIN YOUNG aka YOUNG MC The VH1 reality beyotches would have gotten this one. Tone-Loc's Wild Thing had nothing in common with the Troggs hit other than the name. They were completely different songs. Wild Thing and Funky Cold Medina, on the other hand.....ha!
