That doesn't qualify as a non sequitur. It logically follows a statement of conversation preceding it.

Try again.

I like steel cut oatmeal with dried cranberries.

I'm not big on non-sequiturs. I like there to be at least some form of logical connection between corresponding statements, or else my head explodes....

Then why did you start it with the statement about what day of the week it was in a thread about thermal printers?

This is like that "do you mind if I vent?" commercial.
Push it real good!

That was just a case of thread hijacking.

There is a difference.....

Though I'll have to consult Estonut to figure out what exactly it is....

My new thermal printer ROCKS! I actually squeaked when the first shipping label zipped out. I have no idea why I put off getting one for so long.

If you have stock in HP, sell! It's bound to take a dive now that I don't have to spend a small fortune on those stupid little HP21 ink cartridges.
It's okay Fanny, I'll let you hijack my thread anytime you want to!! :) Of course, I will try desperately to get it back, all the while, increasing my post count! But I will never be mad at you for hijacking.

Here is my stupidity - what is a thermal printer?
It's a printer that doesn't use ink, it uses heat to burn the impression. Sounds too good to be true, huh?

Here's the catch. You need special thermal paper. I still have an old TI thermal 10 key from the 70's, but I don't think they even sell the print rolls for it anymore.

I think most modern cash registers are thermal (I'm pretty sure Mecca's are that way because I've never had to wait for them to change the ribbon). The ones with the receipt tape that is kind of slick.

Yes, Mecca's are thermal... or I'd guess it's thermal. Definitely not the old ribbon type I remember from when I started. We got those new registers I believe with our first remodel in 2001....

It never occurred to me that it was heat and special paper. I guess that's why if you leave them near heat, the whole damn thing turns black. I have had that ruin returns before, or had them fade beyond recognition. When that happens, I miss the old ones.

I might have to look into those printers...I eliminated my printer because I didn't use it that much and the ink was so expensive and would inevitably dry out because I didn't use it enough. I don't print a lot, and what I do print I usually just do at work. But if it's just special paper and no ink, I could rethink that.

How much do these printers cost?

Thermal printers are usually only used for receipts, casino Ticket-In/Ticket-Out vouchers and things like that. Fanny said she was printing labels, at the beginning of this thread. If you want to print standard letter-sized documents, I doubt if you'd find one. If you did, I doubt you'd be happy with the price of the thermal paper for it.
