Of course he's stoopid. He's 23, and has more money and attention than most 23 year old boys get, and he's going to make poor choices. I think he'll learn. I could be wrong. I'm not disturbed by it - it opened some interesting discussions with my kids - always valuable.

When reality requires approval, control replaces truth.
To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead. -Thomas Paine
You can ignore reality, but you can't ignore the consequences of ignoring reality. -Ayn Rand
Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities. -Voltaire

I'm so proud of my University
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

What Phelps should have said:

I especially agree with this paragraph:
Thirty-two years after my last time, & I still think it's way past time to legalize it.
It would have been interesting if the Phelps pic had been taken somewhere where marijuana is legal (Netherlands? India? .....don't have time to research any other countries right now.) If he'd been filmed drinking a beer or a glass of wine -- he is over 21 now -- would anybody care?

I especially agree with this paragraph:
Super Bowl XLIII MVP, tooHere’s a crazy thought: If I can smoke a little dope and go on to win 14 Olympic gold medals, maybe pot smokers aren’t doomed to lives of couch surfing and video games, as our moronic government would have us believe. In fact, the list of successful pot smokers includes not just world class athletes like me, Howard, Williams, and others, it includes Nobel Prize winners, Pulitzer Prize winners, the last three U.S. presidents, several Supreme Court justices, and luminaries and success stories from all sectors of business and the arts, sciences, and humanities.

I would have also called him stoopid if he was on film smoking a cigarette.
I would not call him stoopid if he was on film drinking beer or wine. I did call him stoopid when he was arrested for DUI.

Funny how people's perceptions vary depending on where their biases lie. I wouldn't think twice about seeing somebody smoking a cigarette, but I'd think they were ass ignorant to be drinking.peacock2121 wrote:I would have also called him stoopid if he was on film smoking a cigarette.

But I smoke and my last drink was almost five years ago.
I also don't think there's anything wrong with a little weed used in a responsible fashion now and then. Unless you are in a profession where you have signed something acknowledging that it is not allowed and the consequences are established.
Push it real good!
