12. “Cigarette?”
“Smoking.”
I think this might be Out of the Past. I can't find the exact quote because it's so short, but the characters do talk about smoking a few times. And that would match up with Africa Screams and Robert Redford.
I kept thinking that but the same on the exact quote. It just SOUNDS so noir.

Right on!
IMDB wrote:Robert Mitchum told Roger Ebert he smoked so much that when the camera was rolling and Kirk Douglas offered him a pack and asked, "Cigarette?" Mitchum, realizing he'd carried a cigarette into the scene, held up his fingers and replied, "Smoking." His improvisation saved the take and they kept it in the movie.

What's left is The Front and two films that have already been used once. My guess is that we're looking for a Woody Allen movie.

We have the DEATH part of Love and Death and the PARIS part of Midnight in Paris, but I can’t find any other Woody connections.

The Front was directed by Martin Ritt.

Goes with 43. Lady in the Lake for Funny Lady with Barbra Streisand, who directed 20. Prince of Tides

Great puzzle Frank; that kept us going for a while.

Glad you enjoyed it!

I would like to have included Woody Allen, Mel Brooks, Charles Chaplin, Spike Lee, and some other obvious choices, but they mostly appeared in films that they directed. And it's hard to put two titles together that yield movies like Play It Again, Sam and To Be or Not to Be.
