Further evidence of the difference one teacher can make

#1 Post by Buffacuse » Tue Jun 24, 2008 6:47 pm

For the Mr K's of the world--here is the difference one teacher can make. Lil' Buff really struggled with history all year--his hardest subject (for an Aspergers kid, applying concepts can be nearly impossible) and he was headed for an F for the year. His teacher--who frankly never understood how to teach or deal with him--left before the last quarter and the new teacher instantly got the little guy and Lil' Buff loved him.

4th quarter grade--A

He passed history for the year as a result. Same thing with his PE teacher--this guy totally got him all year long--when to push him, when to back off, gave him trophies when he did well--and he got an A+ his last quarter in PE--amazing for a kid who is very uncoordinated and usually hates PE.

So, to the Mr K's of the world who give a damn and make an effort to work with kids like him...thank you.

Buff,

what a wonderful end to the school year. I'm sure you're puffed with pride. Perhaps next year you can meet with the counselor and ask for a workshop for lil Buff's teachers to help them with tactics for success. It'll make them less anxious and lil Buff too. I know it helped me with a student with autism spectrum disorder. Little tips made all the difference and I didn't have so many miscues.

have a great summer.

Yippee! WTG teacher, and Lil' Buff.

For Lily: Your point is excellent--I have tried many times to get the county here to sponsor an in-service program run by the folks who run Lil Buff's summer program (chump change) but...they never follow through. Lord, how I wish just once they would...

Almost missed this -- I'm glad I took another look before going to bed.
