Donald Trump, who conveniently ducked out of military service in Vietnam, has now gifted the public with his latest conception of himself as a military genius standing between two actual American military geniuses. As part of his command, he has proposed the construction of a new fleet of 15 Trump-class battleships, at a total cost of at least $275 billion. Those battleships will be tempting targets for Iranian drones, as the Russians have found out in the war against Ukraine. Trump has also just awarded a $7 billion no-bid contract for a new fleet of icebreakers that the Coast Guard didn't request, apparently because he heard that Finland had more icebreakers than the United States. It's comforting to know that if the Iranians, Chinese, or Santa Claus launch an invasion from the North Pole Trump has America well protected. Unfortunately, we don't have that $7 billion or, needless to say, the $275 billion to spend on helping the struggling American public that has recently had access to food stamps and Medicaid cut.
