A Better "Trump" Waiting in the Wings
You guys do realize, don't you? That if your wildest fantasy is fulfilled with Trump being marched away in handcuffs, you will have just cleared the way for a much better version of Trump who is waiting in the wings
.
I speak, of course, of Ron Desantis.
I am a Desantis 2024 guy-my youngest is a Trump 2024 guy so we go back and forth on that.
If conditions change and Desantis is the standard bearer-it will be fun to see how fast you guys pivot too-he is "Literally Hitler" and "Actually, he is worse than Trump"-etc etc.

Re: A Better "Trump" Waiting in the Wings
I’m curious to know why he thinks it’s a good use of the money coming from Florida taxpayers to fly immigrants from Texas to Massachusetts, and why he thought it was appropriate to do so under false pretenses. I am, however, proud of the residents of Martha’s Vineyard for taking this stunt in stride and welcoming their new neighbors (who were falsely told they were being flown to Boston for work permits). —Bob

Re: A Better "Trump" Waiting in the Wings
DeSantis has largely flown under the radar as far as national public scrutiny is concerned, but that will change once voters get to know him.
According to an August YouGov national poll, people's views on DeSantis:
Extremely favorable: 25%
Somewhat favorable: 12%
Somewhat unfavorable: 8%
Extremely unfavorable: 27%
Don't know: 27%
The key here is that over one-quarter of the population doesn't know enough about DeSantis to have an opinion. That will change if he runs for President.

If DeSantis does run in 2024, this stunt about flying migrants to Martha's Vineyard is going to come back to bite him. This is one issue that he owns all by himself without any help from Trump.

Getting compared to Castro by Spanish-speaking radio in South Florida while picking on refugees who are fleeing an actual socialist regime may not be the best look for a Florida politician who's wooing the Cuban-American vote. But hey -- he's the professional politician so he must know what he's doing.silverscreenselect wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 7:14 amIf DeSantis does run in 2024, this stunt about flying migrants to Martha's Vineyard is going to come back to bite him. As for Massachusetts having trouble handling the 50 refugees, in a way I guess that's true. There were so many offers of material help that the cops had to ask people to stop bringing food, because they already had more donations than they could use and the crowd of people arriving to make donations was interfering with traffic. I guess that unlike Ron DeSantis, Massachusetts really means it when they ask for "your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free." --Bob

I read that 19 of the 50 are doctors who were offered jobs there. They all had to turn them down because housing costs were too high.Bob78164 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 10:30 amGetting compared to Castro by Spanish-speaking radio in South Florida while picking on refugees who are fleeing an actual socialist regime may not be the best look for a Florida politician who's wooing the Cuban-American vote. The only "trouble" was that the refugees arrived unannounced, landing on the airfield with no warning. It took a while to work out the logistics. It's kind of like your parents arriving for a surprise visit and finding you all finishing dinner with the guest bedroom a mess.

Or 2000 or so coming when you don't have lunch ready. Or a room. Or DPS to remove the dead or raped truck inhabitants.silverscreenselect wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 3:24 pmThe only "trouble" was that the refugees arrived unannounced, landing on the airfield with no warning. I guess then not being ready explains why it took a whole 48 hours for the Massachusetts National Guard to be called into action and deport the illegals from Martha's Vineyard. If it happens again-they will likely be more ready and the illegals will be deported within hours from MV.Beebs52 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 4:53 pmOr 2000 or so coming when you don't have lunch ready. Nor was anyone "deported." The refugees voluntarily agreed to move somewhere less isolated with better access to the resources they'll need. --BobBob Juch wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 9:53 pmThere were no illegals in Martha's Vineyard.Spock wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 6:16 pmI guess then not being ready explains why it took a whole 48 hours for the Massachusetts National Guard to be called into action and deport the illegals from Martha's Vineyard. Re: A Better "Trump" Waiting in the Wings
‘Huge mistake’: DeSantis’ migrant transports could undercut support in South Florida
The move by DeSantis dominated the radio and television airwaves in South Florida — where large swaths of Hispanic voters live.
The move by DeSantis dominated the radio and television airwaves in South Florida — where large swaths of Hispanic voters live.
One of the problems Democrats encountered in 2020 was a dropoff in Latin support. Frankly, they took that for granted until too late in the election cycle. This latest move by DeSantis, Abbott, and others will help in purple states with substantial Hispanic population, like Arizona, Nevada, and Florida.Gov. Ron DeSantis’ decision to transport mostly Venezuelan migrants to Martha’s Vineyard earlier this week could hurt the Republican governor in November with a key constituency that the GOP has sought to win over. The move by DeSantis dominated the radio and television airwaves in South Florida — where large swaths of Hispanic voters live. One Spanish radio host loudly denounced the move and even compared DeSantis’ actions to that of deceased Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, who relocated Cubans in the early ‘60s.
Democrat Charlie Crist, who is challenging DeSantis, on Saturday rushed out a new digital ad targeting Hispanics and the Venezuelan community as part of a six-figure buy pounding DeSantis over his attention-getting move. “From a Miami perspective, it’s a huge mistake,” said state Sen. Annette Taddeo, a Democrat challenging incumbent Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.). “All these Republicans — including my opponent — historically talk about socialism and communism and that we are standing up to these horrible dictators. The migrants are fleeing exactly what Republicans say they are fighting against.”
DeSantis’ actions were widely condemned by Democrats as inhumane while being cheered on by conservatives who contend the surge in immigration is being ignored by Biden. “I have friends and neighbors who fled Venezuela’s brutal dictator, and to cruelly treat anyone in that spot like a political pawn or fundraising gimmick, is simply repulsive,” said Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) whose own district includes a large contingent of Venezuelan Americans.
The move came less than 24 hours before Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and other Florida Republicans held their own press conference in front of the White House to denounce Biden’s policies on Latin Americans, including recent overtures by his administration to Maduro’s regime. While DeSantis staunchly defended his actions in press conferences this week, some Florida Republicans have been cautious in their remarks. Scott himself sidestepped a question about whether DeSantis should have transported the migrants, instead saying Biden should do more to secure the border.
DeSantis also convinced the Republican-led state Legislature to include $12 million — which is coming from interest earned off the billions provided to Florida through the American Rescue Plan — in its new budget to relocate migrants. Taddeo pointed out that she tried to amend an immigration bill this past session to include language that would prohibit the state from transporting migrants if they were trying to flee a communist or socialist country. “I tried to warn them,” said Taddeo, who contended that many South Florida Republicans are remaining relatively quiet about what the governor did. “They know this is absolutely toxic in Miami-Dade County because it’s showing their true colors,” she said. “All this outrage about socialism and communism — it’s all fake.”

It looks like DeSantis's illegal stunt will enable the people he flew from Texas to Massachusetts to get visas to stay in the country. I guess they should move to Florida so they can thank him. --Bob

I'm feeling quite positive about a DeSantis run. He'd be a terrific choice.

Trump promotes article encouraging him to run as third-party candidate if GOP doesn't nominate him
Donald Trump, the gift that keeps on giving.Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday promoted an editorial suggesting that he run as a third-party candidate if the Republican Party does not make him its 2024 presidential nominee. On his Truth Social website, Trump posted a link to an editorial from MAGA publication American Greatness in which author Dan Gelernter compared Trump to the late President Teddy Roosevelt, whose unsuccessful third-party bid in 1912 handed the White House to Democrat Woodrow Wilson.
Gelernter concedes that Trump running as a third-party candidate in 2024 would likely also hand Democrats the White House, but he suggests it would be worth it to teach the Republican Party a lesson about defying its base. "I have no intention of supporting a Republican Party that manifestly contravenes the desires of its voters," he writes. "The RNC can pretend Trump isn’t loved by the base anymore, that he doesn’t have packed rallies everywhere he goes. But I’m not buying it: Talk to Republican voters anywhere outside the Beltway, and it is obvious that he is admired and even loved by those who consider themselves 'ordinary' Americans."
