A geocaching puzzle - just for fun

#1 Post by Vandal » Wed Sep 29, 2021 8:39 pm

Altered Book Titles

This is an active geocaching puzzle that I thought I'd share with everyone. The titles of ten classic books have been altered with similar words. Supply the correct title for each. There have been similar games of Lyrically Speaking.

Example: About Little White Rodents And Grown Boys - Answer: Of Mice and Men

If you feel daring, continue the puzzle and come up with the correct coordinates.

Please use spoilers! Feel free to continue to edit your post as you get more answers.

1. Kyphotic Soul of an Indiana School
2. Fauntleroy of the Circus Circles
3. Principal Lateral Appendages of a Plant Stem of Marijuana
4. Trials of a Deciduous Shrub with a Shark Appendage.
5. The Geezer and the Alphabet Letter
6. Student with a Blemished Body Part and a Conflagrant Cup
7. The #FF2400 Grapheme
8. Defensive Baseball Player in the Forage Crop
9. A Sapling Flourishes in the Dodgers Old Locale
10. Absconded with the Zephyr

Now count the number of each of these letters in your corrected book titles: (for example, if there were eight M's in your answers, you would put the number 8 next to M's in the list below.

B's ___

F's ___

G's ___

K's ___

L's ___

M's ___

P's ___

U's ___

W's ___

X's ___

Y's ___

Substitute those answers in the formula below:

N 42° PF.KUM

W 71° (G-B)W.XLY

5. The Old Man and the Sea
6. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I'm even more surprised that after I got all the names, I couldn't add up the letters correctly no matter how many times I tried. I finally used my computer to do it.

Spoiler
My result didn't look quite right, so I verified the exact book titles and found 2 missing articles:

1. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
2. The Lord of the Rings
3. Leaves of Grass
4. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
5. The Old Man and the Sea
6. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
7. The Scarlet Letter
8. TheCatcher in the Rye
9. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
10. Gone With the Wind

CRAP! None of the letters in "The" are counted below, so my original answer stands.

Now count the number of each of these letters in your corrected book titles: (for example, if there were eight M's in your answers, you would put the number 8 next to M's in the list below.

One of your counts is wrong, thus one of your coordinates is wrong.
