The Blue Jays and MLB cut ties with Roberto Alomar after sexual misconduct investigation

Roberto Alomar is no longer affiliated with the Blue Jays, after Major League Baseball found the former infielder violated the league’s policies following an investigation into an allegation of sexual misconduct.

Alomar, 53, was terminated as a consultant to MLB and placed on the ineligible list after a “baseball industry employee” came forward earlier this year with an allegation of sexual misconduct from 2014 involving the former Blue Jay, according to a statement from the league Friday. The decision was made after an independent investigation by an external legal firm.

Idaho State Representative Aaron von Ehlinger has resigned after the Idaho House Ethics Committee unanimously voted to suspend him from office and before the full House could take up a resolution to expel him. The complaining witness, who is using the name Jane Doe, suffered harassment, including doxxing from one sitting lawmaker and an attempt by another to have her arrested, that is beyond the pale.

I reiterate, the Ethics Committee's action was unanimous. This was not a partisan hit job on Mr. von Ehlinger, though it became one on Jane Doe. --Bob

Former Pittsburgh Pirates closer Felipe Vazquez has been convicted of 15 counts of sex crimes, including child pornography, statutory sexual assault, and sexual abuse of children, stemming from a relationship he had in 2017 when he was 26 and the girl was 13 (he was acquitted on 10 other less serious charges related to his continuing relationship with the girl since then). He faces other charges in Missouri and Florida involving other girls. He was suspended from baseball since his arrest after the 2019 season and was denied bail.

Actor Danny Masterson has been ordered to stand trial on charges that he raped three women in the early 2000s. The alleged assaults occurred from 2001 to 2003 and the women testified at a preliminary hearing in Los Angeles this week. He is also the defendant in a civil suit alleging that he directed the Church of Scientology to follow and harrass his accusers following their coming forward. He faces up to 45 years in prison on the criminal charges.

Liz Cheney's challenger reveals he got a 14-year-old girl pregnant when he was 18 and is 'almost estranged' from his son

https://www.businessinsider.com/liz-che ... -18-2021-5

Anthony Bouchard, a conservative lawmaker mounting a primary challenge against Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, said on Thursday that he fathered a child with a 14-year-old girl when he was 18 and was "almost" estranged from his son. The woman died by suicide in 1990 when she was 20 years old, Bouchard said.

A Wyoming state senator, Bouchard said he wanted to get ahead of a news outlet and others investigating his past and disclosed the information in a 13-minute Facebook Live video. He wrote on Facebook that he was "dodging a bullet from the Fake News Media" by posting the video.

"So bottom line, it's a story when I was young, two teenagers, girl gets pregnant," he said. "You've heard those stories before. She was a little younger than me so it's like the 'Romeo and Juliet' story."

Bouchard and the girl, whose identity he didn't disclose, got married in Florida when she was 15 and divorced three years later, he told the Casper Star-Tribune. Florida's law at the time allowed for two people to get married at any age if there was a pregnancy involved and a parent consented, the news outlet said.

Mickey Callaway banned until at least end of 2022 season, fired by Los Angeles Angels

In a statement that was issued Wednesday, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred wrote that the investigation "concluded that Mr. Callaway violated MLB's policies and that placement on the ineligible list is warranted."

The Los Angeles Angels issued a follow-up statement announcing they are firing Callaway as pitching coach, adding: "We appreciate Major League Baseball's diligent investigation and support their decision."

Five women, all of whom work in sports media and spoke to The Athletic under the condition of anonymity, accused Callaway of inappropriate behavior that included sending shirtless photos, requesting nude pictures and, in one instance, thrusting his crotch in a reporter's face while she attempted an interview. The behavior spanned five years and his employment with three organizations, including his stint as Cleveland Indians pitching coach and New York Mets manager.

The woman who accused actor Armie Hammer online of raping her has now come forward publicly, and the Los Angeles Police Department is now investigating. Hammer's attorney denies the charges and says that the relationship between the two was consensual. The woman is represented by Gloria Allred. The woman has not identified herself by name but appeared at a press conference with Allred calling herself "Effie." According to Effie and Allred, other women have confirmed to them that they were also assaulted by Hammer.

As a result of the original charges, Hammer has become another Kevin Spacey in Hollywood, being dropped from various projects to which he was attached, including a romantic comedy opposite Jennifer Lopez and a miniseries about the making of The Godfather in which Hammer was to play producer Al Ruddy.

https://variety.com/2021/film/news/armi ... 234933830/
The release of Kenneth Branagh's Agatha Christie film, Death on the Nile, has been postponed again until February, 2022. Unlike earlier delays, which were due to the pandemic, this one is more related to Armie Hammer's legal troubles. Hammer has a key role in the movie, so recasting him (as was done with Kevin Spacey in All the Money in the World) or writing him out of the script would be difficult. Since Death on the Nile is a Fox project, this is now Disney's problem.

At the time his scandal became public, Kevin Spacey had completed a film, Billionaire Boys Club, with Ansel Elgort, Taron Egerton, and Emma Roberts. That movie eventually received a token theatrical release, grossing $1,300, before being sent to video (I saw it on Amazon Prime). Death on the Nile is a $90 million project, so it may wind up on Disney Plus, or, more likely, Hulu, if Hammer's legal problems persist.
Hammer has now been officially replaced by Miles Teller on the upcoming miniseries for Paramount Plus, The Offer, about the making of The Godfather. Teller will play Al Ruddy, the producer of The Godfather. The miniseries is told from Ruddy's point of view, so Teller probably has one of the largest roles. Ruddy is also the executive producer of the miniseries. No other casting information has been announced.

Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcel Ozuna was arrested Saturday night on domestic violence charges after his wife made a 911 call to police in Sandy Springs (the suburb just due of Atlanta where I also live). Ozuna had broken two fingers on his hand during a game earlier in the week and was on the injured list and not with the team in New York. Police say they witnessed him choke his wife, throw her against a car, and hit her with the cast on the fingers. He spent the last two nights in jail and will have a bond hearing this morning. Neither the Braves nor MLB have taken any official action on the matter. Ozuna would have been out of action for several weeks anyway due to his hand injury.

The lawsuit filed by a dozen female water polo players who accused their coach of sexual abuse has been settled for $14 million. The former players sued US Water Polo and the International Water Polo Club (a California club) alleging failure to protect them from abuse from coach Bahram Hojreh is a series of incicidents from 2012 to 2017. Hojreh is awaiting trial on 34 counts of sexual abuse against 10 women, nine of whom were children at the time the alleged abuse occurred. Hojreh was suspended in 2018 by the national water polo organization when it first learned of the allegations and has now been permanently banned.

Former Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler has entered Joe Paterno-level creepiness.

From USA Today:

Which brings us to Thursday and the absolutely horrible allegation made by Schembechler’s son Matt that when he told his father he had been sexually assaulted as a 10-year-old boy by Michigan football team doctor Robert Anderson during a 1969 physical, Bo flew into a rage — not against the doctor, but against the boy, punching his son with a closed fist to the chest, knocking him across the kitchen.

“I don’t want to hear this,” Matt Schembechler quoted his father as saying, according to the Detroit Free Press. “Never talk to me about this again.”

Matt Schembechler said Anderson fondled his genitals and digitally penetrated him. “I tried to tell him repeatedly,” Matt said of Bo, “but my efforts earned me a punch in the chest. It was the beginning of the end for our relationship.”

R. Kelly Moved to NYC Ahead of Federal Sex Trafficking Trial

It was not immediately clear exactly when the one-time R&B superstar was moved, but federal Bureau of Prisons records show Kelly is now housed at the Metropolitan Detention Center.

A judge approved the move in April, saying sufficient precautions were in place after the pandemic to let the trial move forward later this summer.

The 54-year-old Kelly has been in custody in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Chicago since he was indicted in July 2019 on federal child pornography, obstruction of justice and racketeering charges.

The NFL has fined the Washington Football Team $10 million as a result of its investigation of sexual harassment and toxic workplace charges against the team from female employees dating back over a 15-year period. The league also recommended various remedial actions for the team to take in addressing the problem going forward. Tanya Snyder, wife of team owner Dan Snyder, will take over day-to-day operations of the team while Dan will focus his attention on other matters (such as a retirement party).

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer, the 2020 NL Cy Young Award winner, has been placed on seven-day administrative leave by MLB following allegations of sexual assault filed by a woman who obtained a restraining order against him. The woman alleges that Bauer choked her using her hair until she was unconscious and then assaulted her. The alleged assaults occurred on two different occasions in April and May at Bauer's house. Bauer did not appear at the hearing where the restraining order was issued but denies the charges. The woman suffered extensive facial bruising after the encounters. Bauer admits the couple had sex but claims that she wanted him to get rough with her.

The Atlanta Falcons have released linebacker Barkevious Mingo, who they signed as a free agent in the offseason, after his arrest in Texas on charges of indecency with child sexual contact. Under Texas law, this means either engaging in sexual conduct with a child under 17 or causing the child to engage in such conduct and carries a maximum 20-year sentence. Texas authorities have not released any additional information regarding the charges or the accuser. Mingo denies all the charges and his attorney added that the allegations were first made over two years ago.

The FBI failed to properly investigate sex-abuse allegations against Larry Nassar, the former doctor for USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University, according to a scathing report by the Justice Department’s inspector general, who also determined that FBI officials gave misleading or false answers when confronted about those failures.

Despite “the extraordinarily serious nature of the allegations and the possibility that Nassar’s conduct could be continuing, senior officials in the FBI Indianapolis Field Office failed to respond to the Nassar allegations with the utmost seriousness and urgency that they deserved and required, made numerous and fundamental errors when they did respond to them, and violated multiple FBI policies,” concludes the report issued Wednesday by Inspector General Michael Horowitz. The report says that when confronted with the shortcomings in their handling of the case, such as failure to interview alleged victims, FBI officials in Indianapolis sought to blame others.

“She Said,” a dramatic retelling of the sexual harassment investigation that took down Harvey Weinstein and sparked the #MeToo movement, is coming to theaters next year. The movie, from Universal Pictures, will be released on Nov. 18, 2022. “She Said” will star Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan as New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor, who together broke the story that shattered decades of silence around the subject of sexual assault in Hollywood and sparked a cultural reckoning. The movie will focus on their efforts to uncover and expose decades of allegations against the powerful film producer, who was eventually sentenced to 23 years in prison on charges of sexual assault and third-degree rape.

Kantor and Twohey won Pulitzer Prizes for their work on the story, which published in October 2017 and detailed accounts of numerous women who claimed Weinstein abused or harassed them in incidents that dated back to the 1990s. In the wake of Weinstein’s downfall, several high-profile Hollywood figures such as Les Moonves, Kevin Spacey, Matt Lauer and Brett Ratner were accused of sexual misconduct. Maria Schrader, whose credits include the Netflix limited series “Unorthodox,” is directing the movie. Rebecca Lenkiewicz (“Ida,” “Colette”) is adapting the screenplay, which is based on Twohey and Kantor’s best-selling book “She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement.” Production is set to begin this summer.

Harvey Weinstein has been extradited to Los Angeles to face further sexual assault charges

(CNN) Harvey Weinstein was moved early Tuesday morning to California per a court order, the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision confirmed to CNN.

Attorney Norman Effman confirmed to CNN that Weinstein is now in the custody of Los Angeles County, and his attorneys anticipate that he will be arraigned on an indictment there Wednesday.

Weinstein, the disgraced former movie producer, faces a total of 11 counts of sexual assault in Los Angeles County involving five women.

Timothy Hutton has been cleared by Canadian authorities after a former child actor and model claimed that he raped her in 1983 when she was 14 years old. She filed the charges in 2019, alleging that he and several friends brought her to his Vancouver hotel room (he was filming Iceman at the time). She said he then raped her while a friend watched. Hutton claimed that he had never met the woman, and that she tried to extort him. The age of consent in Canada was 14 in 1983 when the alleged rape occurred, but that would have no bearing in a case of non-consensual sex.

Given these findings, which are unambiguous, I think it's likely that the (Democratic) New York Legislature will impeach and remove Governor Cuomo. All 19 Democratic members of New York's House delegation have already called upon him to resign.
