On January 1, all works originally published in the United States in 1925 entered the public domain (many later published works are also in the public domain due to irregularities in their copyrights as well). These include some classics:

The Painted Veil
The Trial (German version)
Porgy (the book, later known as Porgy and Bess)
An American Tragedy
Manhattan Transfer (John Dos Passos)

Stella Dallas (silent version)
Go West (Buster Keaton)
The Gold Rush (Charlie Chaplin)
Phantom of the Opera (Lon Chaney)

Always
Sweet Georgia Brown
Manhattan
Yes Sir, That's My Baby
Although the songs themselves will be in the public domain and may be freely performed now, various later recordings of them are still protected by copyright.

I got Mrs. Dalloway today -- I picked it up at one of those tiny get a book/leave a book libraries that people put up around neighborhoods. Not sure I'll read it, it's older than I thought.
