Oliver Fry (carryover contestant)
Firefighter

Jimmy and Oliver discuss pressure associated with Oliver's job and comparing it to being on the show. Oliver mentioned a firefighter who contracted COVID-19 and died at age 44, leaving behind a wife and three children, that some of his winnings will be donated to the widows and orphans of disabled firefighters. His "smartest person he knows" is his sister Kathy Sanchez, a retired schoolteacher.

$4000: Built in the 13th century and featuring a picturesque balcony, a popular tourist attraction in Verona, Italy, has what apt name?
A - Macbeth's house
B - Cleopatra's house
C - Juliet's house
D - Lear's house

Oliver says he's going to need Kathy's help. She says that this is about Shakespeare and knows that Verona is associated with Juliet.
Spoiler
Answer: C (Juliet's house)
$8000: "Drums or flats?" is the age-old question food lovers ask themselves when ranking the two different types of what?
A - mozzarella sticks
B - doughnuts
C - Pop-tarts
D - chicken wings

Jimmy asks what the firehouse specialty is and who the best cook is. Oliver says they are all good. He asks Kathy for help and she says that if you take the chicken wing the meatier part is the drum and the smaller part is the flat.
Spoiler
Answer: D (chicken wings)
$16,000: Whose 2020 video for "Watermelon Sugar" acknowledges the frustrations of social distancing by opening with the words "This video is dedicated to touching"?
A - Bruno Mars
B - Justin Bieber
C - Harry Styles
D - The Weeknd

Oliver laughs and Kathy mutters in the background. Oliver says this is why he chose his phone-a-friend, because she's younger and knows things like this. It's his niece, Nikki, 30 years old and a hairstylist who loves pop culture. He asks Kathy if he should do it and she concurs.
Phone a friend results
Oliver reads the full question and the answers, leaving 15 seconds for her answer. She gives him an answer with 100% certainty.

Answer: C (Harry Styles)

$32,000: Which of these statements is true about the three U.S. states whose names are four letters long?
A - they border each other
B - their names start with a vowel
C - their names are one syllable
D - they're west of the Mississippi River

Kathy names Utah, but can't think of the others; Oliver tries to help by reciting other states. Oliver comes up with Ohio and Kathy says they don't border each other and are not west of the Mississippi. Neither of them can come up with Iowa until Oliver finally names it. He had a friend who went to school there and he apologizes to Iowa for forgetting it.

Answer: B (their names start with a vowel)

Oliver now has to choose whether to trade a lifeline for the chance to use Kathy. He opts to save her and give up the 50:50.

$64,000: After Chris Evans wore one in the movie "Knives Out," which of these fashion items became a craze in late 2019?
A - faux fur hat
B - cable-knit sweater
C - trench coat
D - leopard print shirt

Oliver didn't see the movie but did see the previews. He doesn't think that fur is as popular as it used to be. He decides to ask the host.
Ask the host results
Jimmy reminds Oliver that he doesn't know the answers, but he's pretty sure he knows this one. He remembers Chris Evans wearing a sweater and looking "oh, so good".
Spoiler
Answer: B (cable-knit sweater)
$125,000: Instead of "cheese," Victorian photographer Richard Beard had his subjects say what to make their mouths look small and prim?
A - oysters
B - marmalade
C - prunes
D - fruitcake

Oliver says that "prunes" seems like the right answer and he decides to use his sister for help.
Smartest person results
She agrees that saying "prunes" makes your lips purse. She says them out loud and Oliver watches on the monitor. He still thinks "prunes" is the right answer and he's going to go with his gut. Kathy says to do whatever he thinks is right. He decides to take the chance.
Spoiler
Answer: C (prunes)
$250,000: An extreme challenge for open-water swimmers, the "Mouths of the Dragon" is a treacherous, 12-mile swim from Trinidad to what country?
A - Venezuela
B - Colombia
C - Suriname
D - Barbados

Oliver wants to say Suriname. He knows it's not Venezuela or Colombia. He thinks Trinidad is off the coast of Africa so he eliminates all but Suriname. He wants to say that but he isn't sure. Since he isn't 100% sure he decides to walk away.
Spoiler
Answer: A (Venezuela)

Let's hope my "smartest person" knows this, because I don't.

Time for a lifeline. I would probably have traded my "ask the host" for my "smartest person" and would go there.
