Defense Secretary Esper sacked

#1 Post by SpacemanSpiff » Mon Nov 09, 2020 12:29 pm

...purportedly via tweet.

Let the bloodletting begin in the Cabinet (and other executive department organizations) of those that Mr. Trump thinks have slighted him.

Well, everyone's going to get sacked anyway, so?

The question is whether this is part of the inevitable replacement of cabinet officials that takes place when one party assumes the White House or whether this was a typical Trumpian hissy fit without any real thought to what goes on next.

It's very troublesome that the next two months may be government without anyone really in charge if Trump spends his time golfing, tweeting, and attending "I was robbed" rallies. The General Services Administration is still refusing to acknowledge the election results and release funds to Biden to aid in the transition effort. I worry about what might happen at the CDC and FDA in Trump's loyalists decide to stonewall or sabotage the transition efforts.

True that. However, I read this is the first time (in modern times, whatever that means) that such a position was sacked during a contested election period after election day. Granted, it isn't uncommon for a two-termer to have transitions between election day and inauguration day, but not for an outgoing president to do so.

Secretary Esper wrote a very nice farewell letter. One of the few things that I immediately read that he sent during the past year or so.
