Lyrically Speaking - 2/20/20

#1 Post by Cigarette Nazi » Thu Feb 20, 2020 4:05 am

I would like to take this time to advise everyone that the Lyrically Speaking Winter Extravaganza is a nonsmoking event. Any player who wishes to smoke will need to exit the facility and go to a designated glass enclosure at least 69 nautical miles away from the nearest public building. Hefty fines payable to state lawyers will be levied on anyone who ignores the game's smoking ban. Are we clear? I don't even want to catch anyone talking about smoking or ciggies like the unlawful artists in these songs do!!! Now if you'll excuse me, it's 4:20 and I..... um..... have something I need to do in private.....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. So we took turns starin'
Out the window at the darkness
'Til boredom overtook us
And he began to speak

2. Gonna make a break and take a fake
I'd like a stinking aching shake
I like vanilla, it's the
Finest of the flavors

3. The radio is blastin', someone's knockin' at the door
I'm lookin' at my girlfriend, she's passed out on the floor

4. I'm high but I'm grounded
I'm sane but I'm overwhelmed
I'm lost but I'm hopeful, baby

5. Peace came upon me
And it leaves me weak
So sleep, silent angel
Go to sleep

6. Say goodbye to
The oldies but goodies
Cause the good ole days
Weren't always good
And tomorrow ain't
As bad as it seems

7. A built in remedy
For Khrushchev and Kennedy
And anytime an invitation
You can decline

8. Other peoples thoughts they ain't your hand-me-downs
Would it be so bad to simply turn around
You cook so well, all nice and French
You do your brain surgery too, Mama, with a monkey wrench

9. You missed two classes and no homework
But your teacher preaches class like you're some kind of jerk

10. Yeah he found a six shooter gun.
In his dads closet hidden in a box of fun things
And I don't even know what.
But he's coming for you, yeah he's coming for you.

11. Third boxcar, midnight train
Destination...Bangor, Maine.

12. Catching Walleye from the dock
Watching the waves roll off the rocks
She'll forever hold a spot inside my soul

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that references smoking somewhere in the lyrics (but NOT the title!)

Image Bonus: Smoke 'em if you got 'em...
You can smoke on this Bored..... if you're on fire!

So the first thing I like to do when posting as a Merry Man is check back at how long it's been since I used it. That's when I saw I'd just done this theme 3 years ago. Oh well....

1. So we took turns starin'
Out the window at the darkness
'Til boredom overtook us
And he began to speak
The Gambler - Kenny Rogers

2. Gonna make a break and take a fake
I'd like a stinking aching shake
I like vanilla, it's the
Finest of the flavors
One Week - Barenaked Ladies

3. The radio is blastin', someone's knockin' at the door
I'm lookin' at my girlfriend, she's passed out on the floor
Mama Told Me Not To Come - Three Dog Night (Conjuring up even worse images than Come On Eileen)...

4. I'm high but I'm grounded
I'm sane but I'm overwhelmed
I'm lost but I'm hopeful, baby
Hand In My Pocket - Alanis Morissette (One R, Two S's and T's. I've long since memorized how to spell Cincinnati, but not Alanis' damned last name...)

5. Peace came upon me
And it leaves me weak
So sleep, silent angel
Go to sleep
The Air That I Breathe - Hollies

6. Say goodbye to
The oldies but goodies
Cause the good ole days
Weren't always good
And tomorrow ain't
As bad as it seems
Keepin' The Faith - Billy Joel

7. A built in remedy
For Khrushchev and Kennedy
And anytime an invitation
You can decline
Killer Queen - Queen

8. Other peoples thoughts they ain't your hand-me-downs
Would it be so bad to simply turn around
You cook so well, all nice and French
You do your brain surgery too, Mama, with a monkey wrench
Little Miss Can't Be Wrong - Spin Doctors (A flashback from the original Kitty Sandwich game... and the song that with Fanny's help gave us the "Shithouse Rats")

9. You missed two classes and no homework
But your teacher preaches class like you're some kind of jerk
(You) Gotta (Fight) For (Your) Right (To) Party - Beastie Boys

10. Yeah he found a six shooter gun.
In his dads closet hidden in a box of fun things
And I don't even know what.
But he's coming for you, yeah he's coming for you.
Pumped Up Kicks - Foster the People

11. Third boxcar, midnight train
Destination...Bangor, Maine.
King of the Road - Roger Miller

12. Catching Walleye from the dock
Watching the waves roll off the rocks
She'll forever hold a spot inside my soul
All Summer Long - Kid Rock

Vandal knows you gotta start 'em out young. Five points to him for smoking in the boys womb...

Cigarette Nazi

The Gambler - Kenny Rogers

2. Gonna make a break and take a fake
I'd like a stinking aching shake
I like vanilla, it's the
Finest of the flavors

One Week - Bare Naked Ladies

3. The radio is blastin', someone's knockin' at the door
I'm lookin' at my girlfriend, she's passed out on the floor

Mama Told Me Not to Come - Three Dog Night

But I was already there...

4. I'm high but I'm grounded
I'm sane but I'm overwhelmed
I'm lost but I'm hopeful, baby

Hand in My Pocket - Alanis Morrissette

5. Peace came upon me
And it leaves me weak

The Air That I Breathe - Hollies

6. Say goodbye to
The oldies but goodies
Cause the good ole days
Weren't always good
And tomorrow ain't
As bad as it seems

Keeping the Faith - Billy Joel

I was going to make a smokin' in the boys room reference, but that was The Longest Time. I can't remember what he was doing in this video, except I think there was some doo-wopping and snapping of the fingers going on....

7. A built in remedy
For Khrushchev and Kennedy
And anytime an invitation
You can decline

Killer Queen - Queen

An invitation you can't decline. Because she's a killer and all...

8. Other peoples thoughts they ain't your hand-me-downs
Would it be so bad to simply turn around
You cook so well, all nice and French
You do your brain surgery too, Mama, with a monkey wrench

Little Miss Can't Be Wrong - Spin Doctors

Was it Mini that like this song so much? For the longest time (ha!), the only song I knew of theirs was Two Princes, until this kept coming up in LS, or something like that...

9. You missed two classes and no homework
But your teacher preaches class like you're some kind of jerk

Fight for Your Right - Beastie Boys

GIven your dislike for parentheticals, this song must have been a tough one...

10. Yeah he found a six shooter gun.
In his dads closet hidden in a box of fun things
And I don't even know what.
But he's coming for you, yeah he's coming for you.

Pumped Up Kicks - Foster the People

11. Third boxcar, midnight train
Destination...Bangor, Maine.

King of the Road - Roger Miller

Roger Miller Not So Fun Fact: He was the one that found the wreckage of the Patsy Cline plane crash

12. Catching Walleye from the dock
Watching the waves roll off the rocks
She'll forever hold a spot inside my soul

Werewolves of Alabama All Summer Long - Kid Zevon Skynyrd Rock

Don't worry.... I'll grade it and add your contribution to the list since the LSWE is only a Defcon 3 priority. It's not like I follow my own rules anyway...

Yay! I'm in serious danger of finishing the bottom half of the LSWE, changing the universe as we now know it. I need them points!

Now that you've set my mind at ease, I can take some Dollar Tree olives over to my Mom and fix her oxygen concentrator (which probably consists of plugging it in all the way). Yes, this is my life.....
