Fireball's Fantastic 500 -- Late 1990s, Part I

Compendium, as of October 28: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=55782

My high school and early college years. Music got me through a lot of personal highs and personal lows during this time period. You'll see a total of 32 songs in this chapter. Like I've said before, a far cry from the 68 songs in the first half of the 1990s. Here we go!

#32. Blessed, Elton John (1996)

We normally see Sir Elton near the top of one of my lists, but he kicks off a list this time.

#31. Can't Stop Loving You, Van Halen (1995)

Sammy Hagar's final year with Van Halen produced this single that peaked at #30, making it the group's final Top 40 hit.

#30. Maria, Blondie (1999)

Blondie charted a buttload of hits during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Yet, the only Blondie song to show up in my Top 500 is their 1999 comeback single. Although this song stopped at #82 on the Hot 100, it did get quite a bit of airplay on adult contemporary radio, where it peaked at #14 on that chart. England really loved this song because they made it Blondie's sixth and final #1 hit.

#29. When You Love a Woman, Journey (1996)

Speaking of comeback singles, Journey reunited after an eight-year sabbatical to put out this #12 hit. This would be their final Top 40 hit, as Steve Perry soon left the band after a serious hip injury.

#28. Get It On Tonite, Montell Jordan (1999)

#27. Brick, Ben Folds Five (1997)
Boney Hall of Fame: #329

And now, here is the seventeenth crossover from Boney's Top 350 Songs list.

#26. Ray of Light, Madonna (1998)

One phrase that you have never heard me say before is, "That was a great Madonna song." So Madge really had to deliver something special in order to appear in my Top 500. Did she do that here? Well... this song won the Grammy for Best Dance Recording and was nominated for Record of the Year. The critics agree with me: That was a great Madonna song. The video was great, too, but I wouldn't recommend it for anybody who is prone to epileptic seizures.

#25. U Know What's Up, Donell Jones f/ Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes (1999)

#24. You Are Not Alone, Michael Jackson (1995)

MJ's last #1 hit.

#23. Alone, Bee Gees (1997)

The opposite of the previous song title gives us the last US Top 40 hit for the Brothers Gibb.

#22. Pony, Ginuwine (1996)

And just like that, this part of the list is one-third done. Another third will arrive on Friday.
