I knew what he was referring to when he said it. Anyone who saw Tucker Carlson the previous evening also knew what he was referring to. He specifically announced later in the day that he was referring to the report on the Carlson show. For anyone to still say he implied there was a terrorist attack that never happened is either still misinformed (which is telling of their skill and credibility as a reporter) or deliberately distorting the facts for their own purposes. For you to present this convoluted post as justification says the same thing about you. Trump doesn't talk in politically correct or even exact terms. I really hate that about him, but that's who he is, and I know many people who speak like that, and know what they MEAN. But what I hate more is the news media and dems painting everything he says and does since the time he took office as an impeachable offense. They are making themselves 'the boy who cried wolf'. If Trump ever does anything that is truly egregious, they won't be believed. They and you need to back off and save your criticisms for things that really matter.silverscreenselect wrote:First, Flock, take a look at the meaning of "implies" in the dictionary. What Trump said did imply that there had been a terror attack, when he used it immediately after a statement about recent German terror attacks. Now, I'll grant you that you can argue that this statement isn't a "demonstrably false statement," as the article says all the items in its list are. And if the Times had written an article calling out the Sweden statement as a single or one of a handful of Trump "lies," then you might have a point.FEB. 18 “You look at what's happening in Germany, you look at what's happening last night in Sweden. Sweden, who would believe this?” (Trump implied there was a terror attack in Sweden, but there was no such attack.)
But the Times included this buried in the middle of a list of dozens of out-and-out lies. The clear gist of what the Times is saying is that Trump lies publicly on a scale that's unprecedented among U.S. presidents. And for the press to give him a pass on that in order not to appear "malicious" would be highly irresponsible.
If someone reports that Ted Bundy killed 30 women and it turns out he only killed 29, is that malicious reporting?
My question to you is do you have a problem with the Times article as a whole for pointing out the massive scale on which Trump lies to the American public? Or is this just a desperate attempt to deflect criticism away from "your" guy any way you can.

Nothing that he's done so far. If he starts jailing CNN reporters, that would be egregious. So far, he's just made it very clear he doesn't like them, which is his first amendment right. If he starts shooting people who disagree with him, that would be egregious. So far, he's mocked them very childishly. It's stupid, but it's his first amendment right. If he starts using executive orders to overrule Congress, that would be egregious. He might have done so already, but Obama already did that and he didn't get impeached for it.Bob Juch wrote:What would you consider truly egregious?flockofseagulls104 wrote:If Trump ever does anything that is truly egregious...
If it is proven he somehow worked with Putin to get Podesta's emails to Wikileaks, that would be egregious. Accusing him of doing so is not grounds for impeachment. Not liking his policies or not liking him personally is not grounds for impeachment.
I think that he has a lot in common with Andrew Jackson. A lot of people were apparently embarrassed and upset by President Jackson's crude demeanor as well. Well, we elected a modern day Andrew Jackson.
What do you think he's done to warrant being impeached?

Re: IT IS FAKE NEWS (Trump is right)
Flock, you may have known what he meant, but a whole lot of the people at that rally where he spoke and who heard the coverage of it didn't have the benefit of seeing the Tucker Carlson report. And Trump's explanation of what he meant a day later doesn't change the way the average person, not having seen Carlson's report, would have interpreted Trump's statement. That's what imply means... to suggest something without saying it directly.flockofseagulls104 wrote:

Now, you might quibble with whether that qualifies as merely a highly reckless statement for the President of the United States to make to the American public or a lie. But that certainly doesn't lessen the impact of the dozens of other outright lies in that article. So, it might be more accurate for the article to say: "here are dozens of Trump lies and one statement that's at best a reckless implication." Does that really make the reporting malicious in anyone's mind other than yours and Hannity's?

There WAS no terrorist attack in Sweden on that Friday night! What possible reason would trump have to say there was when there wasn't?! Why would he 'lie' about it?!! The point I am making is that national news anchors and reporters are NOT the 'average person' and they should know better than to paint this as a 'lie'.silverscreenselect wrote:Flock, you may have known what he meant, but a whole lot of the people at that rally where he spoke and who heard the coverage of it didn't have the benefit of seeing the Tucker Carlson report. Pretty much everything in that list are petty interpretations of statements he made that were not meant to be literal, but the author decided to take them literally. Sort of like the crap they pin on Limbaugh all the time. If you keep defining 'lies' in this way, when he makes a real damaging lie, no one will believe it, because the definition you are using is so petty. Sort of like what the dems and media have done with the word 'racist'. If everyone you disagree with is a racist, real racists get cover.

I guess you don't consider completely demeaning the office of the Presidency and turning the United States into the world laughing stock in less than six months egregious. Not to mention his little wrestling video, which, had Kathy Griffin done that, would have had the right wing foaming at the mouth.flockofseagulls104 wrote:Nothing that he's done so far.Bob Juch wrote:What would you consider truly egregious?flockofseagulls104 wrote:If Trump ever does anything that is truly egregious...
There's plenty of similar columns around, but it's interesting to see what Republicans had to say about Obama:
http://www.crnc.org/obamas-thin-skinned ... democracy/Rather than accept any form of criticism, especially from the press, this thin-skinned [Obama] White House is going out of its way to stifle dissent... The problem was that the truth got in the way of the political strategy that the White House was trying to create. So what did the Obama Administration do? Well in public they ignored the truth altogether and continued their blame game strategy...
The White House has taken on a persecution complex. It simply refuses to deal with opposition –whether it be from the press or Republicans – and instead opts to use its bully pulpit to shout down and demean its detractors. Americans deserve more from their president.

So your point is that it's the fault of the Democrats, the media, and the general public for believing anything the President says because he didn't really mean it.flockofseagulls104 wrote:

So, when should the Americans believe Trump? Does he give out some secret signal like tugging his ear to indicate that this time I'm really telling you the truth?
The fact that you can't see that the degree and frequency of Trump's untruthfulness, and you are correct, it's often about trivial matters, goes far beyond anything that any previous President has done shows just how far in the tank for him you are.

He didn't confuse anything, he expressed it badly. The MSM and dems got it confused and they refuse to correct themselves because it helps their narrative. And they do that so much they have no credibility except for their useful idiots, and you seem to be one of them. Neither the president, the MSM, the dems nor the repubs are acting like adults anymore. They are all acting like immature junior high schoolers, (no offense to junior high school students.) SSS, here is the bottom line. The MSM has been so biased towards the left for so long. And for many of us, who you don't understand and look down on, it is somewhat refreshing for someone to actually call them out for it. I very much wish it could have been someone who would do it in a more mature and articulate manner, but nevertheless, it is something that should have been done a long time ago. Most conservatives just put their heads down and take it from the media. Trump is not taking it. He's fighting back at the bias and unfair reporting the way he knows how. It's childish, but he's going over the heads of the MSM, using twitter to get his message out. I don't think it's going to work. The liberal bias in the MSM is too ingrained. Does CNN do any kind of introspection? Do they do any reports on how their coverage differs depending on the political affiliation of the subjects?silverscreenselect wrote:Because Trump likes to shoot his mouth off and hear himself talk and usually does so without the slightest thought as to the consequences of what he's saying.flockofseagulls104 wrote: What possible reason would trump have to say there was when there wasn't?! That is not 'News'. That is propaganda. The Harvard scholars analyzed the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and the main newscasts (not talk shows) of CBS, CNN, Fox and NBC during Trump's initial time in office. They found, to no one's surprise, that Trump absolutely dominated news coverage in the first 100 days. And then they found that news coverage was solidly negative — 80 percent negative among those outlets studied, versus 20 percent positive.
...
The numbers for previous presidents: Barack Obama, 41 percent negative, 59 percent positive; George W. Bush, 57 percent negative, 43 percent positive; and Bill Clinton, 60 percent negative, 40 percent positive.
...
That said, the coverage of some news organizations was so negative, according to the Harvard study, that it seems hard to argue that the coverage was anywhere near a neutral presentation of facts. Assessing the tone of news coverage, the Harvard researchers found that CNN's Trump coverage was 93 percent negative, and seven percent positive. The researchers found the same numbers for NBC.
---
Want proof? The Media Research Center did an exhaustive study on just how biased CNN has become, according to a report covering 20 hours, from 4 a.m. May 12 until midnight.
“After excluding commercials, teases and promos, our analysts found 13 hours, 27 minutes of actual news coverage, an average of just over 40 minutes per hour. Of that, a whopping 92 percent (12 hours, 19 minutes) was devoted to the Trump presidency, with a mere 68 minutes — a little more than three minutes per hour — devoted to all of the other news of the day.
And the irony is that they were SO wrong about the election, but they haven't learned any lesson from it. They keep going down the same road.

Fox certainly doesn't have a liberal bias, nor do Breitbart and the other alt-right "news" outlets out there. Why aren't they reporting on all the wonderful things Trump has done during his first six months in office? They could be running more articles about the great job Trump did on saving jobs at the Carrier factory. Oops. Or the way his legislative agenda is sailing through Congress. Oops. Or the way that people all over the world, who aren't subject to the pervasive evils of the biased U.S. mainstream media, just love and adore him. Oops.Bob78164 wrote: Facts have a well known liberal bias. So it's the media's fault for reporting them. Facts don't have a liberal bias. For the most part, liberals adapt their thinking to conform to facts. Conservatives simply dig in harder.flockofseagulls104 wrote:LOL. Well known to who?Facts have a well known liberal bias.

Re: IT IS FAKE NEWS (Trump is right)
Donny gets (and deserves) consistently negative coverage, much more so than other politicians, because he's a liar on a scale unprecedented among modern politicians, and because bragging about being able to commit sexual assault with impunity deserves calumny. Given these facts, if the media's coverage of Donny weren't relentlessly negative, it would mean they aren't doing their jobs.flockofseagulls104 wrote:SSS, here is the bottom line. Why would he 'lie' about it?!!
And the fact that he confused a TV report on earlier events with a breaking fact story shows a frightening lack of comprehension on the part of the most powerful man in the world. And it's far from the only time Trump hasn't gotten his facts straight. Some people might consider that egregious.
I'm sure you've seen this and discounted it, of course.
Why don't any of the MSM do a story on that?
The Big Lie technique only works if you buy in to false equivalencies. The media won't. And I think that's also true of an increasing fraction of the American people. And as Congressional Republicans start making more and more decisions that affect people in ways that will actually have an impact on their lives, I think they'll figure it out faster and faster. All the lying in the world won't convince someone that they have health insurance when they know full well they don't. --Bob

You talk about the Big Lie and then perpetuate this one. Please provide a link to where Trump was "bragging about being able to commit sexual assault with impunity." It simply doesn't exist.Bob78164 wrote:Donny gets (and deserves) consistently negative coverage, much more so than other politicians, because he's a liar on a scale unprecedented among modern politicians, and because bragging about being able to commit sexual assault with impunity deserves calumny.

I must confess I'm a little surprised you weren't aware of it. It got a fair amount of attention when it first surfaced. --Bob

bob, voters saw this video. They also saw John Podesta's emails. They saw a whole lot of other things. Nevertheless, they elected trump president. You may not like him, but he is your President. And unless he commits a high crime or misdemeanor, is impeached for it and is convicted of it, or the dems and press motivate some lunatic to do him harm, he will remain your president. GET THE F**K OVER IT, ALREADY.Bob78164 wrote:I can do better than that. Here's the video.Estonut wrote:You talk about the Big Lie and then perpetuate this one. You have to admit that Bob did provide the link that you requested, a link you said "simply doesn't exist". Your comments about Trump being the president aren't really relevant, are they?flockofseagulls104 wrote:bob, voters saw this video. They also saw John Podesta's emails. To be clear, it was esto, not flock, who claimed that the link didn't exist. --Bobearendel wrote:You have to admit that Bob did provide the link that you requested, a link you said "simply doesn't exist".
