This is so sad, but I'm happy she got her chance. I hope the experience was everything she had dreamed it would be.

Wow. Touching story. I'm glad they worked to get her on.

Some of the contestants we had on back in the day looked like they'd died before the taping...

SHE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know what it's like to be a J! champion and for her, the feeling must have been even more sweet. So happy that it could happen for her. Her family's emotions must be really mixed right now.

I was thinking would any contestant play less than their best to let someone like this win, and I don't think so. It is too hard just to get there. It is more sporting to give everyone your best effort on this kind of game.

I know everyone means well, but I always feel funny when they let the kid with Down Syndrome score the touchdown. That kid knows the defense is lying back, to let him score. It has to feel funny, to know they are not bringing their best work.

It's different when players do something to restore things as they should be, like when a player breaks her leg on a home run and the opposition carries her around the bases.

Did the other contestants know at the time about her condition?

The returning champion today was a seven-time winner, so she was up against some pretty steep competition, and she was the only one to get Final Jeopardy correct.

No, according to Jeopardy's press release. Only a few staffers, including Trebek, knew that she was dying. Some others had to know, so she could be fast tracked onto the show. It might have been just a coincidence, but they did her a favor by ending Double Jeopardy with 5 clues still remaining on the board while she held a small lead.

Cindy won again!

FJ answer: NYC TV
In 2010, in its fourth season, this TV show shifted its primary setting to 6th Avenue, 2 blocks west.

Sixth Avenue (now Avenue of the Americas) is two blocks west of

Can someone who is more currently plugged in to the Jeopardy forum find out if Cindy got a recording of her shows before she died? Mom is wanting to know that she got to see them after production. In 2005 we were able to get one on the Sunday night before air date (thanks to Alphadummy), when the syndicate sent them out, but that was several years ago, so the process is probably different.

We also want the show to step up with a donation to a cancer charity that matches Cindy's winnings, though they can't say much until her run ends. It's nice to know that even if she loses tomorrow she will go over $40K.

I can't find it right now, but a few days ago I read an article that said she watched her episode(s) from her hospital bed.

Friday's Result (Dec. 16th):
Spoiler
Michael came close but not quite close enough ($2,401 gap), while Erin ran into bad luck on all three DD's (everyone was right on FJ, though).
Cindy's now up to $62K and a buck, and will be back on the next new episode (not sure if they're new or reruns next week).

It makes me think about how petty I was to lament about having two final exams on the same day when I had a cold. Four games of Jeopardy in one day with a high-grade fever. Holy crap.

I wish she had lived 'til at least after her shows aired, so she could read all telling her how great a player she was.

She continues to amaze.

Knowing what we now know, imagine we can see her weakening from the stress of so many tapings, but she still pulls it out of the fire to win.

TOC material, for a rematch with the champ she beat.

Not to be.

Did you notice that challenger Julia pronounced the name of the Israeli parliament the way you like? (And the judges accepted it.)

Wednesday's Results
Spoiler
Her streak ended tonight at six wins following a very close match, but Cindy left Jeopardy! with a seven-day grand total, including a further $2,000 for her second-place finish tonight, of $105,803, which she pledged to the Cancer Research Institute.

Alex taped a brief coda that ended tonight's broadcast. (From Chad's YT channel.)

This is a nice online tribute video with more details about Cindy's performance. Her first four episodes were taped late August and her last three were taped September 13th. She got preview copies of her first three episodes and she watched from her hospital bed.

I pronounce the final letter of Knesset as a "t" because I've never heard it pronounced any other way. My Yiddish-speaking parents didn't have it in their few-Hebrew-words-in-Yiddish vocabulary, mostly we heard holiday names & "bas mitzvah".

Nobody in Israel calls the Parliament "Knesses." The same word appears in the common Hebrew phrase "bet knesset" (synagogue), but Eastern European Jews rarely said "beis knesses"; they used the Yiddish "shul" instead.
