9. CHICAGO II-CHICAGO (1970)

A point I've made before, but one I'll make again: the wimpy ballads that scored the big chart successes in later years sometimes
overshadows the fact that, in their early days, this band kicked major league butt. The first of the two records on this album
opens with four excellent pop-rock numbers on the first side, then the cool and breezy "Wake Up Sunshine" to kick off Side 2. Then
we get "Ballet For A Girl in Buchanan", the suite containing both "Make Me Smile" and "Colour My World". Great songs..even better
as part of the suite. Sides 3 and 4 let the band stretch and experiment a little, with jazz flourishes and such, but also give us
the absolutely smokin' "25 Or 6 To 4". Listen to that again and you might agree with me that the band was never the same after
guitarist Terry Kath died. Definitely lost their grit, that's for sure. The final track, "Where Do We Go From Here?" leaves us with
a plea for peace, love and understanding that still holds weight today. For anyone who pooh-poohed their induction into the Rock Hall
of Fame, just listen to this album...

Another great pick. I inherited it when my older brother moved out. Along with some ski gear and I can't remember what. Anyway, I enjoyed it for a couple years until I moved out.
