A few more that could fit my proposal:

Emil Jannings = The Patriot (later with Mel Gibson)
Colleen Moore = The Scarlet Letter (later with Demi Moore)
Lilia Skala = Lilies of the Field (earlier a silent film that is now considered "lost")
Peter Ustinov = Vice Versa (later with Judge Reinhold)

Okay, you guys need a hint. Here it is.

YOU WERE THERE. Or on the brink. Almost as soon as you started speculating.

You zeroed in immediately on two of the actors who I expected would help you solve this (admittedly tricky) game. (It's tricky because it's hard to see, not because it's complicated in operation.)

You just needed to follow up on it one step further.

Once you see it, the matches will come easily. Melly even suggested early on where to look for the matching movie.

Well... that makes me wonder if I had it right the first time and "TV titles" is the theme. I'll have to go through those filmographies again and see if that works for everybody on List A.

Which leads me to believe that we are looking at either We're Not Dressing or O'Henry's Full House, since that's the two I mentioned.

Unless "early on" mean the three Tyrone Power movies -- all of which were remakes -- Mark of Zorro, Blood and Sand and Razor's Edge.

I've been asked for more hints. Sorry, I didn't mean for this one to be so tough.
Pastor Fireball wrote:Fred Allen didn't appear in a whole lot of films. Six, in fact:

It's in the Bag!
Love Thy Neighbor
O. Henry's Full House
Sally, Irene and Mary
Thanks a Million
We're Not Married!

He also did one film voiceover ("Buck Benny Rides Again") and three short films. The Tangredi has to run through one of those films above.
To which I replied, "It does."
Pastor Fireball wrote:Lilia Skala had a fairly limited filmography, as well. She did mostly TV work.

Right now, I'm not seeing anything in the titles of Lilia Skala's movies that I can connect to one of Fred Allen's movies. I was hoping that titles of TV shows would be the connection--Fred Allen's O. Henry's Full House contains both FULL HOUSE and HOUSE--but nothing in Skala's resume leads there.
I thought this would lead right to it. And then there was this as well.

Funny we should be talking about Fred Allen because that's who I was thinking about at lunch -- purely in the context of this puzzle, of course.

At least two of his movies -- We're Not Married and O'Henry's Full House -- were anthology movies, so it allows a lot of room, as far as co-stars go. AND he was a frequent co-star of his radio nemesis Jack Benny.
There's something significant there, but it has nothing to do with anthologies.

It's not you, Frank. It's us.

As far as Lillia Skala, she was in HOUSE of Cards - it was the movie referenced in her clue.

Not to sound pedantic again, but the Lilia Skala movie referenced was called House of Games, not House of Cards. Nonetheless, "House" is in the title.

Damn. I though that TV titles was it. I just remembered that Hugh Laurie was in 101 Dalmatians.

OK... not counting films with foreign titles, here is Lilia Skala's full filmography:

Call Me Madam
Caprice
Charly
Deadly Hero
The End of August
Flashdance
Flowers from Nice
Heartland
House of Games
Lilies of the Field
Madame Wants No Children
Men of Respect
Roseland
Ship of Fools
Testament
The Unexcused Hour

Not nearly as short as Fred Allen's resume, but workable. I think that (of the known people in List A) Karen Morley would have the next shortest resume, with nineteen films.

The subject is "Old Movies, New Movies"... but it's not remakes or ripoffs.

Melly gave a pointer to what Fred Allen movies might be important. Compare those to this list and something may pop out at you, Pastor. And, yes, Karen Morley may put the icing on the cake.

Don't go too much by the name of the game. It will make sense, but it won't help you.

Okay, sorry this one is so tough. I'm going to have to be very explicit. Take the ONE movie for which Lilia Skala is best known. Check that against the list of Fred Allen movies. If that gives you an idea, confirm it by checking Karen Morley's filmography.

"Lilies of the Field", "Love Thy Neighbor", and "Our Daily Bread" are all Biblical phrases. So is "Rebel Without (a) Cause", for James Dean. I'll dig into this one, for sure.

Other titles that fit the Biblical theme:

Bette Davis -- "Jezebel"
Daniel Day-Lewis -- "There Will Be Blood"
Josh Hartnett -- "40 Days and 40 Nights"
Emil Jannings -- "The Way of All Flesh"
Kate Nelligan -- "Eye of the Needle"
Linus Roache -- "The Wings of the Dove"
Max Von Sydow -- "The Greatest Story Ever Told" and "The Seventh Seal"
H.B. Warner -- "The Ten Commandments" and "Let Freedom Ring"

And if Ben Cross is correct on A-37, that would give us "Chariots of Fire".

The title undoubtedly refers to the Old and New Testaments. --Bob

Colleen Moore = Power and the Glory
Frederic March - Inherit the Wind
Margaret O'Brien - Our Vines Have Tender Grapes
Bette Davis - The Little Foxes
Tyrone Power- The Sun Also Rises

Yeah, Frank, you were right. Once we found it ....

Might as well add Ronald Reagan for Voice of the Turtle

Also, wouldn't James Dean be here for East of Eden?

Robert Duvall — “The Apostle”
Bruce Willis — “Armageddon”

I don't know anything about Nigel Bruce, but mellytu74 mentioned he was in “Rebecca.”

A-34. LILIA SKALA = LILLIES OF THE FIELD with Sidney Poitier (B-6. PORGY AND BESS)
A-21. MARGARET O'BRIEN = OUR VINES HAVE TENDER GRAPES with Edward G. Robinson (B-5. DOUBLE INDEMNITY)
A-24. RONALD REAGAN = VOICE OF THE TURTLE with Eleanor Parker (B-18. DETECTIVE STORY)

A-35. H.B. WARNER = KING OF KINGS with Joseph Schildkraut (B-7. LIFE OF EMILE ZOLA)

Partial:

A-32. COLLEEN MOORE = THE POWER AND THE GLORY with Spencer Tracy - need a Tracy movie

I should clarify that I didn't use people's names as titles, since they wouldn't clearly be allusions. In only one case did I use a one-word title, which was of clear Biblical origin.

I'm sure you will come up with title I didn't think of.

I just did -- That would be IAMMMMMMMW :/ :)

One more and a couple of ideas

A-8. KAREN MORLEY = OUR DAILY BREAD with Tom Keene (B-9. PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE)

I will bet Will Geer is here for SALT OF TH EARTH but I can't remember co-stars

B-30. This film is most fondly remembered for a classic rendition of the hymn that begins, “Why should I feel discouraged….”

Could this be MEMBER OF THE WEDDING? That would give us Julie Harris to o with James Dean in East of Eden.

I have to head to bed

Clive Owen = "Children of Men"

One more match and a couple more actors and movies (sans co-stars)

A-31. FREDRIC MARCH = Inherit the Wind with Spencer Tracy (B-1. IT'S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD)

A-1. GREGORY PECK could be here for Keys to the Kingdom OR Behold a Pale Horse (he's also in Valley of Decision BUT we also have ....)
A-13. LIONEL BARRYMORE = Valley of Decision

A-15. HUGH MARLOWE almost HAS to be here for World without End, which means there's a Rod Taylor movie in B.
