Superfly Jimmy Snuka Charged With 1983 Murder of GF

More bad news for an ex-wrestler. Superfly Jimmy Snuka has been charged with the 1983 murder of his then 23-year-old girlfriend. Snuka who is now 72 would have been about 40 at the time. At the time, Snuka claimed he had found her in their motel room after a wrestling event struggling to breathe, but based on some other statements he made, he also had said he'd pushed her down earlier in the day. He's out on bail, since the charges are third degree murder and involuntary manslaughter.

Snuka was best known for his acrobatic moves and leaps off the top rope in matches. He also was involved in one of the later Roddy Piper's best known stunts when Piper, while "interviewing" Snuka for his weekly segment Piper's Pit, hit Snuka in the head with a coconut.

I've tried not to read the articles I've seen on this. Why, after 30 years, is he charged for this?

There was an extremely sloppy investigation, even the FBI had to get involved (unofficially IIRC) and everyone knew he (allegedly) did it, but there just wasn't enough to go to court on (supposedly).

Grand Jury was brought together last year and I guess something finally went right for him to be charged.

There is currently a Home Depot standing where the George Washington Motor Lodge was located. It was not necessarily one of the finer hotels in the area.
