Lyrically Speaking - 2/9/16

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Feb 09, 2016 1:43 am

Hey, how about a good old fashioned Tuesday Wordplay on.... well, Tuesday? Below are 12 songs that all have a word in common in their titles. This game should play right into the wheelhouse of most of my players, so I ironically expect some pretty big scores today...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Rooster hits the washboard and people just got to smile,
Blinky, thumps the gut bass and solos for a while.
Poorboy twangs the rhythm out on his kalamazoo.
Willy goes into a dance and doubles on kazoo.

2. Here's your ticket pack your bag: time for jumpin' overboard
The transportation is here
Close enough but not too far, Maybe you know where you are
Fightin' fire with fire

3. Girl, I been watching you
From so far across the floor, now baby
That's nothing new
I've watched you, so many times before, now baby

4. Some people say I'm obnoxious and lazy
I'm uneducated--my opinion means nothin'
But I know I'm a real good dancer
Don't need to look over my shoulder to see what I'm after

5. What happend to the girl I used to know,
You let your mind out somewhere down the road

6. There is nothing that is wrong
In wanting you to stay here with me.
I know you've got somewhere to go,
But won't you make yourself at home and stay with me?

7. Baby, babe, I'll meet you
Same place, same time
Where we get, we get together
And please up our mind, oh

8. I just wanna say this is my way
Of tellin' you everything
I could never say before
Yeah this is my way of tellin' you
That every day I'm lovin' you so much more

9. In a couple of days they come and
Take me away
But the press let the story leak
And when the radical priest
Come to get me released
We was all on the cover of Newsweek

10. Too late to save myself from falling
I took a chance and changed your way of life
But you misread my meaning when I met you
Closed the door and left me blinded by the light

11. There's a fire beneath my skin
There's a fever that makes me ill
Got a love, a love that kills
I've got twenty four hours to live

12. We sit in the car outside your house
I can feel the heat coming 'round
I go to put my arm around you
and you give me a look like I'm way out of bounds

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains the magic word of the day in its title.

Me and BeBe have gone over and over all the lyrics, and here is what we recognize:

Nuffinadall.

Therefore, we have decided that the word of the day -- clearly, that's CLEARLY -- must be "wildebeast." We like that word. It's so goofy that only two-footers could have thought it up. Neither of us ever has met a wildebeast, so we don't know what they might call themselves in their wildebeastese language.

Our nomination for the Kroxquo is "The Lonely Wildebeast." Our selection for the image bonus is a youtube that not only includes wildebeastery, but also a short community theatre production of Zoo Animals on Wheels which includes a snippet of the aforementioned musical selection.

1. Rooster hits the washboard and people just got to smile,
Blinky, thumps the gut bass and solos for a while.
Poorboy twangs the rhythm out on his kalamazoo.
Willy goes into a dance and doubles on kazoo.

The transportation is here
Close enough but not too far, Maybe you know where you are
Fightin' fire with fire

Down

3. Girl, I been watching you
From so far across the floor, now baby
That's nothing new
I've watched you, so many times before, now baby

Down

4. Some people say I'm obnoxious and lazy
I'm uneducated--my opinion means nothin'
But I know I'm a real good dancer
Don't need to look over my shoulder to see what I'm after

Down

5. What happend to the girl I used to know,
You let your mind out somewhere down the road

Don't bring me down, ELO

6. There is nothing that is wrong
In wanting you to stay here with me.
I know you've got somewhere to go,
But won't you make yourself at home and stay with me?

Same place, same time
Where we get, we get together
And please up our mind, oh
Get down, get down

Get down tonight. I was looking for this one but do not know the artist.

8. I just wanna say this is my way
Of tellin' you everything
I could never say before
Yeah this is my way of tellin' you
That every day I'm lovin' you so much more

Right down the line, Gerry Rafferty

9. In a couple of days they come and
Take me away
But the press let the story leak
And when the radical priest
Come to get me released
We was all on the cover of Newsweek

Me and Julio down by the schoolyard, Paul Simon

10. Too late to save myself from falling
I took a chance and changed your way of life
But you misread my meaning when I met you
Closed the door and left me blinded by the light

Just like #7 in that game last week, I know this but just can't get it.

Down

11. There's a fire beneath my skin
There's a fever that makes me ill
Got a love, a love that kills
I've got twenty four hours to live

12. We sit in the car outside your house
I can feel the heat coming 'round
I go to put my arm around you
