Lyrically Speaking - 2/2/16

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Feb 02, 2016 7:35 am

What, a Tuesday LSWE game without a magic word? Say it isn't so! Yes, today's game just has another silly, though timely theme... and hell, some of the songs/artists only loosely fit it. Big deal, right? Happy Groundhog Day, everyone!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. She fought every angel
She rearranged the sky
So that each and every woman
Could find the perfect guy

2. Hear the Salvation Army Band
Down by the riverside
It's bound to be a better ride
Than what you've got planned
Carry a cup in your hand

3. How can I hold you when you ain't even mine
Only you can see me through
I leave it up to you

4. What's your name? Who's your daddy?
(He rich) Is he rich like me.

5. Seems so long I've been waiting
Still don't know what for
There's no point escaping
I don't worry anymore

6. Maybe you want to give me kisses sweet
But only for one night with no repeat
Maybe you'd go away and never call
And a taste of honey is worse than none at all

7. Top coat, top hat
And I don't worry
'Cause my wallet's fat

8. I like to rhyme
I like my beef funky.
I'm spunky.
I like my oatmeal lumpy

9. I was young and foolish,
I didn't know what I was doin'
I didn't know Id lost you till you'd gone.
O, I never knew I loved you
Till you were gone

10. Sometime from now you'll bow to pressure
some things in life you cannot measure by degrees
I'm between the poles and the equator
don't send no private investigator to find me please

11. I want to be the girl
With the most cake
I love him so much
It just turns to hate
I fake it so real
I am beyond fake

12. I guess that's so, we don't have a pot
But at least I'm sure of all the things we got

Krroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that can in some way be associated with Groundhog Day.

Image Bonus: Give me a fitting image for this celebrated folklore holiday.

I suspect I'm playing for attendance points here. Oh well, onward . . .
Spoiler
1. She fought every angel
She rearranged the sky
So that each and every woman
Could find the perfect guy

2. Hear the Salvation Army Band
Down by the riverside
It's bound to be a better ride
Than what you've got planned
Carry a cup in your hand

3. How can I hold you when you ain't even mine
Only you can see me through
I leave it up to you

Shadow Dancing, Bee Gees.

Oh yes, seeing the shadow . . . And I got one!

4. What's your name? Who's your daddy?
(He rich) Is he rich like me.

Time of the Season. Dangit, I can hear it, but I just can't bring the artist to mind. It's The Who or The Guess Who or somebody. Nevermind.

5. Seems so long I've been waiting
Still don't know what for
There's no point escaping
I don't worry anymore

6. Maybe you want to give me kisses sweet
But only for one night with no repeat
Maybe you'd go away and never call
And a taste of honey is worse than none at all

7. Top coat, top hat
And I don't worry
'Cause my wallet's fat

Girls go crazy for a

Sharp Dressed Man, ZZ Top.

OK, I give up. How does this fit the theme?

8. I like to rhyme
I like my beef funky.
I'm spunky.
I like my oatmeal lumpy

This sounds like Steve Martin and King Tut, but I dunno . . .

9. I was young and foolish,
I didn't know what I was doin'
I didn't know Id lost you till you'd gone.
O, I never knew I loved you
Till you were gone

10. Sometime from now you'll bow to pressure
some things in life you cannot measure by degrees
I'm between the poles and the equator
don't send no private investigator to find me please

11. I want to be the girl
With the most cake
I love him so much
It just turns to hate
I fake it so real
I am beyond fake

12. I guess that's so, we don't have a pot
But at least I'm sure of all the things we got

I got you, Babe, Cher

The song that comes on the radio in the movie!

Krroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that can in some way be associated with Groundhog Day.

Good Day, Sunshine, Beatles

Image Bonus: Give me a fitting image for this celebrated folklore holiday. I'd post Sunchine if I could find it.

Keep in mind that this is Imbolc, a very important date on the Celtic calendar to honor the sun's rebirth. It's also Candlemas, where you're supposed to light every lamp and candle in the house at dusk. It's also SteelersFan's birthday.

Lizbit said it was my turn to type the answer for team Furry Squirrels. That's probably because we don't know so much today, so since I'm a slower typer than her, it won't take me as long to get the job done. It's her turn to come up with the image, though.

I Got You, Babe -- Sonny and Cher. My sis and I sing this song to our mom. We may not have the tune quite right, though, because she usually says something like, "Hush, you two. Stop making so much noise."
Krroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that can in some way be associated with Groundhog Day.
Morning Has Broken -- Mr. Cat Stevens. I like him. I like cats.
Image Bonus: Give me a fitting image for this celebrated folklore holiday.
I am a meteorologist,
not a groundhog.

Thanks, Sprots. I chose this picture because of the astronomical angle (halfway between winter solstice and vernal equinox).

And I found out Feb. 2 is significant for more than Imbolc, Candelmas and Groundhog Day. It's 40 days after Xmas. In ancient Jewish tradition (Leviticus 22) a new mother had to make a sacrifice 40 days after the birth of a boy (80 days for a girl). The New Testament (Luke 2) says Mary brought Jesus with her to the Temple, where the elder Simeon blessed him. So Feb. 2 is called the Feast of the Presentation.

Wow! Great stuff.

As my dear sainted mother used to say, I can go to bed now; I learned something new today.

Melly's cake may have been intended to be the gopher in Caddyshack, but close enough.
