The day being commemorated is January 23, 2001 (2002 was the first time the list was posted on the anniversary date itself... I posted it the following day in 2001), which became known as Black Tuesday. That was the night the phone game (remember that?) was supposed to start back up, but it only worked for those on the west coast and briefly for those in the east. That situation generated a few posts. Throw in a 150000 gus hunt that night, and it turned into what was then the most prodigious posting day in Bored history, 1342 posts (The still-standing record of 1784 was set a year later)....
