Welcome back!
But since when did the board require a captcha? Brrr.
A twist on captchas that I got probably off of an interview with captcha creator on CBS's Sunday Morning:
Sometimes you'll get "treated" to a 2nd captcha & be told this one is purely voluntary, you can just go ahead & be let in to wherever you were locked out of.
2nd captcha is in fact some real text from an English-language manuscript that people can't decipher. Its in some ancient artistic font & the decipherers have thrown up their hands & said "let's see if a large group of captcha victims can come to a consensus". Meaning, while there is a right answer, only the people in the era of the fancy type know it, & its now up to internet consensus.

The ones I've seen are not from an ancient artistic font. They're from some old book that is being digitized, but due to the image being out of focus or a typesetting problem in the the original text, the OCR software doesn't recognize the word. I would expect the context of the adjacent words to be helpful, but that's not typically included in the captcha.ghostjmf wrote: 2nd captcha is in fact some real text from an English-language manuscript that people can't decipher. Only if you enter your password incorrectly more than a certain number of times (3, I think), or, in my case, when the system doesn't accept your password.ghostjmf wrote:Welcome back!

Confessor:
Ancient font (you're right, they'd be able to decipher those from repeat instances in the text, as well as from context), blurry type, its mostly the same to me; I see this stuff & think "hah! now you're all astigmatic". But I still have to solve the real captchas anyway. If I want to get into whatever. Sometimes it does take several tries.
