Lyrically Speaking - 1/12/15

#1 Post by Gimme A Squiggly » Mon Jan 12, 2015 7:32 am

Good morning, and welcome everyone to the poorly thought out and ineptly run Lyrically Speaking Unextravaganza my servant LB is foisting upon you all this year. I'm sure you're already very familiar with how much of a slacker he is... and it's too bad you can't fire him from the Bored.

Because I'm literally brain dead, I actually agreed to return for Mecca Mondays by presenting more of the music I pipe into my temples of retail. Since LB told me we have a bunch of crotchety old people on this Bored who don't have the fine appreciation for the music of today that I do, we'll start with songs from the Mecca CD from the 1960's. Go ahead and feel free to light one up while you play this game... just make sure you pass a little of that on to your old buddy Sam... oh, excuse me...

Could I get security up to the front of the store to remove these dirty, nasty hippies from the doorway, please!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

WARNING!!! If you are using the subsilver2 or prosilver2 Bored interfaces, be aware that spoilers are NOT working, so be careful not to scroll down past the game thread!

1. Well the girls can't stand her
Cause she walks, looks and drives like an ace now
You walk like an ace now
You walk like an ace

2. When I`m driving in my car
And the man comes on the radio
He`s telling me more and more
About some useless information
Supposed to fire my imagination

3. Standing in the sunlight laughing
Hide behind a rainbow`s wall
Slipping and a-sliding
All along the waterfall with you

4. Oh, let our love survive
I'll dry the tears from your eyes
Let's don't let a good thing die
When honey, you know I'll never lie to you

5. 'Til I'm wheezing like a bus stop
Running up the stairs
Gonna meet you on the rooftop

6. Well, she's gonna get a ticket now sooner or later
'Cause she can't keep her foot off the accelerator

7. In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp

8. Well, the girls are frisky in old Frisco
A pretty little chick wherever you go

9. When they gathered around and started talkin'
That's when Billy would take me walkin'
Out through the back yard we'd go walkin'

10. She feels good
She know she's looking fine
I'm so proud to know that she is mine

11. Love to kick my feet way down the shallow water,
shoo fly, dragonfly, get back to your mother.
Pick up a flat rock

12. She wants to live in the Rockies
She says that's where we'll find peace
Settle down, raise up a fam'ly
To call our own, yeah, we’ll have a home

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist from the 60's you would put on the Mecca CD.

Image Bonus (Please see Esto's primer in the LS Rules thread if you need help with this!): Include an image that in some way is associated with the 1960's.

If you'd like a refresher on how the image bonus works, and how I scored some of the great entries I got last year, here's the first game I used it in last year.

I'm gonna have to play with a handicap this year...yeah, yeah, I play with a handicap every year, very funny, wise guys who were thinking it...I mean as far as this image bonus goes..I am just not into setting up the whole photobucket/whatever thing...sounds too complicated to drag this curmudgeon into the 21st century...I'll just enjoy the other players' efforts, and I'll have a convenient excuse for why I don't win this year...win/win!!!

Despite LB's polemic a while back about critters with huge eyes, I got this unicorn for MatiasSis anyway as a Christmas present and was promptly rewarded by seeing it become an inseparable companion. I can't tell if those are brown eyes or not -- still, close enough. Now, as for being associated with the 1960s -- hey, unicorns are timeless.

I used spoiler first, but it didn't even show up as the phony BBcode etc., so I edited to use spoiler=. That showed the spoiler marker, but I still see my post; must be using one of the proscribed interfaces.

Gimme A Squiggly

Sorry -- I tried -- even edited three times trying to get it to work. Looked at esto's primer, too. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I know, some of these aren't 60s. But many of them are. And I wanted to share how freaked out I was comparing that last pic (from his last concert) to the ones from just a couple of years earlier. Can't believe nobody knew he was about to die.

If you'd like a refresher on how the image bonus works, and how I scored some of the great entries I got last year, here's the first game I used it in last year.

A few notes about images:

T-Bone: The Photobucket/Snapfish/Flickr option is only for your personal photos. You can generally take any photo on the web that has one of the permitted suffixes and is not secured to prevent access and use its URL here with the Img tags.

MrKelley: I don't see anything wrong with your URL. When I first tried to replicate your problem, it didn't display for me, either. When I used the URL to search for the picture, your Elvis pic came right up. When I retried to replicate after that, the pic came up and displayed properly. My best guess is that the site prevents the photo from being accessed directly from outside, but when it DID display correctly for me, it was pulling the image from my cache. I've seen this occasionally when I've tried to post images. I have always been able to find another URL for the same image and used that instead.

Melly: Yours may have 2 issues:
  1. It doesn't have one of the recognized file extensions at the end of the URL.
  2. It looks like you're trying to display an image stored in Google+, which may or may not allow direct access to all of us on the outside.

That's funny -- Today my image appears to be working. Esto, thanks for letting me know I'm not nuts (sic!). I have experienced the same thing you're talking about, and refreshing the Bored had always fixed it. But I refreshed three times last night and it still didn't work. I had also tried putting a different collage up there -- one that showed a pic from Elvis's last concert, and showed how sick he really looked, but finally passed on it because it had an https at the beginning, so I figured maybe the secured part was keeping it from displaying. It was from someone's Pinterest site.

I had also tried putting a different collage up there -- one that showed a pic from Elvis's last concert, and showed how sick he really looked, but finally passed on it because it had an https at the beginning, so I figured maybe the secured part was keeping it from displaying. It was from someone's Pinterest site.

I'm not sure what you had done wrong... when I saw your answer post last night, I copied and pasted the link you provided into a new window to see the image, then I right-clicked to get the url from Properties, and pasted that back into the IMG tags of your post, and it worked... even though I saw nothing different between what you pasted and what I pasted. Either way, I was able to see your image, and that's all that matters... and I took the trouble to fix it while I was at it, which is why it works now...
