WWOQ, IMHO. Relative to Neptune and Saturday, Earth, Venus, and Mars are all about the same size. If only she coulda got past that part and known that Earth was bigger than both of them.

I don't consider it a WWOQ. It's enough to know that Earth is the largest of the "minor" planets and that Saturn is the second largest of the planets. I'd have had much more of a problem with the question if Uranus had been one of the choices. --Bob

I don't consider it a WWOQ. It's enough to know that Earth is the largest of the "minor" planets and that Saturn is the second largest of the planets. I'd have had much more of a problem with the question if Uranus had been one of the choices. --Bob

Agreed, Bob. It might be a bit surprising to consider that there's such a size gap between Earth and the next largest planet, but it's well known that Earth is slightly larger than its "twin" Venus, and Mars is considerably smaller than either of them. I bet Sparky could have answered this question when he was five or six! And since this material appears in every grammar school textbook that covers astronomy, this question would certainly qualify as AYSTA5G question.

Venus is Earth's twin, but it's slightly smaller, so it has to be one of the gas giants. Neptune is smaller than Saturn, so that's the answer.
