US Duplicate Bridge qualifications

#1 Post by macrae1234 » Tue May 13, 2014 8:34 am

For all the smart asses who make jokes about a "bridge report" subject

The tournament to qualify the US representatives for the 2015 Open World Championships (aka Bermuda Bowi the trophy) is being held down the street from where I live, yes I know down the street in Phoenix is 8 miles away. I stopped in yesterday to chat with Phyllis Cheek aka greedphee from the bored and wife of US star Curtis Cheek Didn't have time to watch any of the tournament but the lineup reads like a whos who of US bridge as you would expect.

How do teams get a bye to the round of 16 in a 16-team event? --Bob

Got it. There are 13 teams participating in the round robin, and 11 of them will survive to the Round of 16, there to be joined by the team with a bye to that point. The six winners will join the two teams with byes to the Round of 8. --Bob
