Is this really something we should know? I think that this tidbit was mentioned in many of the media stories last year about the 50th anniversary of the speech. King had used the phrase "I have a dream" in speeches in several cities, most notably Detroit before the March on Washington. It actually was not included in the Wash DC speech, but Mahalia Jackson exclaimed on the dais during his speech, "Tell them about your dream, Martin" (or words to that effect), so King extemporized that portion of the speech.
