Article about Cedric and WWTBAM

And the show is reaching out to a broader group of contestants, says the new host whose full name is Cedric Antonio Kyles . “We’ll go out and get a nice slice of America, younger contestants, but all walks of life from all parts of the country,” he says.
Oh, yeah, they've never cast younger contestants before.
“The game isn’t changing,” [executive producer Rich] Sirop says. “If you like the questions and the style of the show, I don’t think it changes much for you, expect that Cedric is a different personality.”
You've already changed the questions and the style of the show, Rich. That changes a lot. :(

I think what he's saying is that they're going to concentrate on younger contestants now.

From the article:

Cedric will also beef up the laughs on the show. “You don’t want to disrupt the show with a joke, so the key for me is to find an opportunity where I can jump in and add some quips,” he says. “We have background information on each contestant. I’ll look there for an opportunity to add humor before the game..."

Be really careful what you say when you take the Audition Test. :D

"...Once you’re in the game, I want to stay true to the show, although I will be looking for opportunities to add humor.”

Sounds promising. Just so long as he's not quoting Steve Harvey.

The new host showed off his approach during a recent rehearsal. “We had a barber on from a Harlem barbershop,” says executive producer Rich Sirop, who is widely expected to executive produce Vieira’s (upcoming new) talk show. “By the third question he was struggling. Cedric went around to the guy, put his hand on his shoulder and said, ‘Man, I hope you’re good at cutting hair.’ It was funny and relatable.”

That would have been a rehearsal with a fake contestant, but if they're playing for real, I don't know if that kind of approach will make him feel better, or squirm even more.

We all find out on Labor Day.

Yeah, I didn't think that example was funny, either. Meredith always went out of her way to reassure the contestants that they were doing fine, even when they clearly were not. Cedric's example seems to take the opposite tack.

Maybe he made another PAF call to Anne Robinson.

For what it's worth, I was at a taping yesterday and Cedric was decently funny and likeable. With such a limited sample, I don't know how well his approach will work, but I can say that they were definitely milking the "quirky" or comedic value of the contestants a heck of a lot more. Cedric was absolutely using the contestants stories as a point to riff on. It wasn't too mean spirited, but the contestant was definitely the butt of the joke, and I suspect they're looking for people who can quip right back at him- one guy was really good at it, and the show as a result was funny, but a nervous contestant could definitely come off feeling a little roasted, IMHO. As a result, I played all my wacky cards when I auditioned.

To further clarify, "found it" began when uly would rapid fire change his avatars back in the early days of this Bored, always in response to some particular post. It became somewhat of a game to be the first to find the corresponding post to one of his avatar changes. When I began doing essentially the same thing as uly over 4 years ago (only drawing all of mine using my ES-inspired characters, usually in quick time), I became a part of the "game" as well. Lady Soleil's Wacky Cards, featuring a reboot of the character I drew in your portrait that you just installed as your avatar, is ES avatar #511 for me... all of which can be found starting here!
