RIP Robert Zildijan

Robert Zildjian, who has died aged 89, was a scion of a family whose cymbal-making business can trace its roots back to the 17th-century Ottoman Empire.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

So he was a smashing success?

And I guess his best customers would have been the Efrems. Senior and Junior.

Oh no! I grew up in Quincy, MA where he was located.

I have one of his company's t-shirts.
The front has Zildjian on it, written in a faux-middle eastern font and the reverse has script in either Turkish or Armenian.

I've worn this shirt on an airplane a couple times and definitely got sneers. I was even asked if "I was one of those Arabs" (emphasis on the A)

Trivia: Zildjian means "son of a cymbal maker".

What a coincidence! You transpose two letters of his name and get something related to his occupation!

His name was Robert Zildjian.
