Lyrically Speaking - 3/19/13

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Mar 19, 2013 6:23 am

Friends, Bored Buddies, Fellow Lyrics Lovers, Homies, Guys and Gals, Human Beings, or whatever you may want to refer to yourselves... I have come bearing another awesome edition of Tuesday Wordplay! I don't have much of a preamble to this game, so as Moses once told the Pharaoh, "Let's all walk like an Egyptian and play the LSWSE!"

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

1. You can play the game and you can act out the part
Though you know it wasn't written for you
But tell me, how can you stand there with your broken heart
Ashamed of playing the fool

2. I can't understand
What makes a man
Hate another man
Help me understand

3. There is a blue one
Who can't accept the green one
For living with a fat one
Trying to be a skinny one

4. Put it in the ground
Where the flowers grow
Gold and silver shine

5. Seems to me, such an
Itty bitty thing it should be
Why can`t you and me
Learn to love one another

6. They got little baby legs
They stand so low
You got to pick em up
Just to say hello

7. While they while away the hours
In their ivory towers
'Til they're covered up with flowers
In the back of a black limousine, whoa-ah

8. Mary took a dry dive from a hotel room
Bobby hung himself from a cell in the tombs
Judy jumped in front of a subway train
Eddie got slit in the jugular vein

9. Well, I'm on my way
Yes, I'm back to stay
Well, I'm on my way back home
Hit it

10. Take a straight and stronger course to the corner of your life.
Make the white queen run so fast she hasn`t got time to make you a wife

11. There are some who can still remember
All the things that we used to do
But the days of our youth were numbered
And the ones who survive it are few

12. And then he swung from the tree and lit on the ground.
He started to rock, really rockin' around
It was a crazy little ditty with a swingin' tune
Sing aboop boop aboopa lopa lum bam boom

THE POOR PEOPLE OF PARIS - WINIFRED ATWELL.

This is famously a (deliberate) mistranslation of an Edith Piaf song about "Pauve Jean" (poor John), not
"Pauvres gens" (poor people); the non-instrumental English versions are pretty lame, with the poor people of Paris turning out to be very much like the darkies who go to the strutters ball or beat their feet on the Mississippi mud. The instrumental band version by Les Baxter was a #1 hit in the US in 1956. Ms. Atwell's British #1 is a revelation, of which I was unaware before doing the bonus (all I had wanted was DIno on YouTube...):

Spoiler

Shower the People - James Taylor

2. I can't understand
What makes a man
Hate another man
Help me understand

3. There is a blue one
Who can't accept the green one
For living with a fat one
Trying to be a skinny one

Everyday People - Sly and the Family Stone

4. Put it in the ground
Where the flowers grow
Gold and silver shine

5. Seems to me, such an
Itty bitty thing it should be
Why can`t you and me
Learn to love one another

6. They got little baby legs
They stand so low
You got to pick em up
Just to say hello

Short People - Randy Newman

7. While they while away the hours
In their ivory towers
'Til they're covered up with flowers
In the back of a black limousine, whoa-ah

Games People Play - ?

8. Mary took a dry dive from a hotel room
Bobby hung himself from a cell in the tombs
Judy jumped in front of a subway train
Eddie got slit in the jugular vein

9. Well, I'm on my way
Yes, I'm back to stay
Well, I'm on my way back home
Hit it

10. Take a straight and stronger course to the corner of your life.
Make the white queen run so fast she hasn`t got time to make you a wife

11. There are some who can still remember
All the things that we used to do
But the days of our youth were numbered
And the ones who survive it are few

12. And then he swung from the tree and lit on the ground.
He started to rock, really rockin' around
It was a crazy little ditty with a swingin' tune
Sing aboop boop aboopa lopa lum bam boom

Aww... Thanks lb !
Purple People Eater - Sheb Wooley

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that features the magic word of the day in the title.

People Get Ready - Curtis Mayfield

5 Point Bonus: Who is famously alleged to have uttered the quote in my avatar today?

LSWSE Fun Fact: This game replaced my "Never" Tuesday Wordplay game I had planned to use.... until I wrote up the Mecca Loop game about a month ago, and wound up using three of my Never songs in that game, rendering the Never game useless. So People to the rescue....

1. You can play the game and you can act out the part
Though you know it wasn't written for you
But tell me, how can you stand there with your broken heart
Ashamed of playing the fool
Shower the People - James Taylor

2. I can't understand
What makes a man
Hate another man
Help me understand
People Are People - Depeche Mode

3. There is a blue one
Who can't accept the green one
For living with a fat one
Trying to be a skinny one
Everyday People - Sly & the Family Stone

4. Put it in the ground
Where the flowers grow
Gold and silver shine
Shiny Happy People - REM

5. Seems to me, such an
Itty bitty thing it should be
Why can`t you and me
Learn to love one another
People Got To Be Free - Young Rascals (Not to be confused with the Old Jazzys....)

6. They got little baby legs
They stand so low
You got to pick em up
Just to say hello
Short People - Randy Newman

7. While they while away the hours
In their ivory towers
'Til they're covered up with flowers
In the back of a black limousine, whoa-ah
Games People Play - Joe South (Finally, after all these years, I used the version not by the Spinners or APP...)

8. Mary took a dry dive from a hotel room
Bobby hung himself from a cell in the tombs
Judy jumped in front of a subway train
Eddie got slit in the jugular vein
People Who Died - Jim Carroll Band

9. Well, I'm on my way
Yes, I'm back to stay
Well, I'm on my way back home
Hit it
Lonely People - America

10. Take a straight and stronger course to the corner of your life.
Make the white queen run so fast she hasn`t got time to make you a wife
I've Seen All Good People - Yes (Prog rock and their stupid 37128903733 minute double and triple titled songs...)

11. There are some who can still remember
All the things that we used to do
But the days of our youth were numbered
And the ones who survive it are few
People of the Southwind - Kansas (Haven't heard this in ages... and can't remember if it was on the radio or the good old days of VH1 Classic....)

12. And then he swung from the tree and lit on the ground.
He started to rock, really rockin' around
It was a crazy little ditty with a swingin' tune
Sing aboop boop aboopa lopa lum bam boom
Purple People Eater - Sheb Wooley
