Lyrically Speaking - 2/20/13

#1 Post by Liberace » Wed Feb 20, 2013 7:38 am

Woohoohooo!!!! Hello darlings! It's your favorite girlfriend Liberace here to host another extravagant edition of Wacky Wednesday! I've got a most special parade of some of my favorite artists to show off for you in this game! Today's LS is going to be absolutely fabulous, gayer than an Easter bonnet and as queer as a three dollar bill! And sorry Butch, but no real girls allowed! The only thing from Holland I want to see in today's game is a bunch of lovely tulips!!! Now enjoy the game, while I saddle up Rainbow Donkey and get this pretty procession going! Giddy up, horsie!!!!1

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

1. To avoid complications
She never kept the same address
In conversation
She spoke just like a baroness

2. Words are few I have spoken
I could waste a thousand years
Wrapped in sorrow, words are token
Come inside and catch my tears

3. And while I'm away
Dust out the demons inside
And it won't be long
Before you and me run
To the place in our hearts
Where we hide

4. Do you remember
There was a time ahaha
When people on the street
We're walking hand in hand in hand

5. And now as I stand
And stare into your eyes
I see safety there
I want surprises

6. I got a girl named Sue
She knows just what to do
I got a girl named Sue
She knows just what to do

7. If you think I'll sit around while you chip away my brain
Listen, I ain't fooling and you'd better think again
Out there is a fortune waiting to be had
If you think I'll let it go, you're mad

8. You smile like the cartoon, tooth for a tooth
You said that irony was the shackles of youth
You wore a shirt of violent green, uh-huh

9. That's all I wanted
But sometimes love can be mistaken
For a crime
That's all I wanted
Just to see my baby's
Blue eyes shine

10. I'm a model you know what I mean
And I do my little turn on the catwalk
Yeah on the catwalk on the catwalk yeah
I do my little turn on the catwalk

11. All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere

12. You keep coming to me
I can dig, you're dynamite
The way you move
Get in the groove
You're driving me crazy
Crazy for you

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist by someone who Liberace would approve for today's game.

5 Point Bonus: What nearly caused Liberace's death back in 1963?

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist by someone who Liberace would approve for today's game.

Okay, Liberace don't hate, so he'd approve of everyone. And he'd definitely approve of One Direction with five young adorable boys, but that's not what you want. Plus, Honey Boo Boo says everyone's a little gay, so that doesn't eliminate anyone either, especially from my record collection. I could slap some Indigo Girls on you since the ladies are woefully unrepresented here, but I'll go with Forrest Gump by Frank Ocean.

5 Point Bonus: What nearly caused Liberace's death back in 1963?

Severe rhinestone allergy.
That's what makes me beautiful!

The actual cause of the near-fatal attack was Liberace realizing that he and Phyllis had shown up wearing the same outfit.

Spoiler
1. Killer Queen (#1 in '75; #61 all time - I think this is the first yearly #1 song you've done this go round) - Queen
2. Do You Really Want To Hurt Me (#122 in '83; unranked all time) - Culture Club
3. I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues (#59 in '84; #1,493 all time) - Elton John
4. Chains of Love (#10 in '88; #200 all time) - Erasure
5. Brand New Lover (#40 in '87; #1,139 all time) - Dead or Alive
6. Tutti Frutti (#12 in '56; unranked all time) - Little Richard
7. Nope
8. What's The Frequency, Kenneth? (#70 in '84; unranked all time) - R.E.M.
9. Father Figure (#16 in '88; #272 all time) - George Michael, and there goes my Krox.
10. I'm Too Sexy (#38 in '92; #1,912 all time) - Right Said Fred
11. Mad World (#11 in '09; #1,516 all time) - Adam Lambert, based on the theme since I don't think Tears for Fears would fit, but maybe they would. I haven't delved into their backgrounds...
12. Boom Boom Boom (Let's Go Back To My Room) (#192 in '87; unranked all time) - Paul Lekakis

Kroxquo - My favorite gay-themed song is Can You Forgive Her? (#2 in '93; #88 all time) - Pet Shop Boys. If you don't know it, listen to it. I don't play for their team, but if I did, I bet this song would hit pretty close to home.

Bonus - no idea. I'll say a car crash.

Spoiler
A quick run through and I don't see any Bowie or Jagger, and that is a terrible disappointment. Who best to fit the definition of the game? Unless all quoted are non-switch-hitters.

1. To avoid complications
She never kept the same address
In conversation
She spoke just like a baroness

KILLER QUEEN - QUEEN

2. Words are few I have spoken
I could waste a thousand years
Wrapped in sorrow, words are token
Come inside and catch my tears

BOYISH GEORGE - MAYBE.

could be boyish George Michael equally, I get the feeling that the sedated androgynous heirs to glam are going to occupy most of the spaces in the game. And you know from what decade....

3. And while I'm away
Dust out the demons inside
And it won't be long
Before you and me run
To the place in our hearts
Where we hide

PET SHOP BOYS

4. Do you remember
There was a time ahaha
When people on the street
We're walking hand in hand in hand

GEORGE MICHAEL

5. And now as I stand
And stare into your eyes
I see safety there
I want surprises

A-HA

6. I got a girl named Sue
She knows just what to do
I got a girl named Sue
She knows just what to do

TUTTI FRUTTI - LITTLE RICHARD

7. If you think I'll sit around while you chip away my brain
Listen, I ain't fooling and you'd better think again
Out there is a fortune waiting to be had
If you think I'll let it go, you're mad

DRUM_MACHINE_BOOGIE - Anal Lyst

8. You smile like the cartoon, tooth for a tooth
You said that irony was the shackles of youth
You wore a shirt of violent green, uh-huh

THE WORST LYRICS OF THE CENTURY NOT WRITTEN BY BOB DYLAN OR PAUL SIMON - Andro and the Gynes

9. That's all I wanted
But sometimes love can be mistaken
For a crime
That's all I wanted
Just to see my baby's
Blue eyes shine

BEING BORING IS BETTER THAN BEING BORED - SOMEONE WHO GOT QUOTED IN THE OLYMPIC OPENING CEREMONY

10. I'm a model you know what I mean
And I do my little turn on the catwalk
Yeah on the catwalk on the catwalk yeah
I do my little turn on the catwalk

I'M TOO SEXY -- RIGHT SAID FRED. and either quoted or covered in a million unlikely places. As Walter Matthau takes a bath in one of the grumpy old men movies.

11. All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere

NOT THE WORN_OUT PLACES I KNOW SONG - some group whose video included running around with paper-maiche hoods

12. You keep coming to me
I can dig, you're dynamite
The way you move
Get in the groove
You're driving me crazy
Crazy for you

AFTER THIS LIST I AM CRAZY. -

5 Point Bonus: What nearly caused Liberace's death back in 1963?

Too many candalabras set the curtains at the Riveria Hotel ballroom on fire.

No?

Seriously,I remember it was the same day as JFK. TLAF closed the card store after JFK was shot and a neighbor who hated the Kennedys asked mom if she closed because Liberace was dying because it certainly couldn't be because of JFK.

I'll say renal failure because that's always a cause in the end.

Before you and me run
To the place in our hearts
Where we hide

4. Do you remember
There was a time ahaha
When people on the street
We're walking hand in hand in hand

5. And now as I stand
And stare into your eyes
I see safety there
I want surprises

6. I got a girl named Sue
She knows just what to do
I got a girl named Sue
She knows just what to do

Tutti Frutti - Little Richard

7. If you think I'll sit around while you chip away my brain
Listen, I ain't fooling and you'd better think again
Out there is a fortune waiting to be had
If you think I'll let it go, you're mad

8. You smile like the cartoon, tooth for a tooth
You said that irony was the shackles of youth
You wore a shirt of violent green, uh-huh

9. That's all I wanted
But sometimes love can be mistaken
For a crime
That's all I wanted
Just to see my baby's
Blue eyes shine

10. I'm a model you know what I mean
And I do my little turn on the catwalk
Yeah on the catwalk on the catwalk yeah
I do my little turn on the catwalk

I'm Too Sexy - Right Said Fred

11. All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere

12. You keep coming to me
I can dig, you're dynamite
The way you move
Get in the groove
You're driving me crazy
Crazy for you

Liberace

Spoiler
If I wrote fake answers to today's LS I would be shot in the face by the PC Police. I mean look what happened to you when you dared take on that 3rd rail issue of Jewish clothing.

So I will merely say that number 10 is I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred who was basically an earlier more primitive version of me and as a krox, Liberace would undoubtedly love to be in possession of a pair of Big Balls by AC/DC.

Also, I used the following mnemonic while studying for Jeopardy! Judge me.

Dammit, I really should have held back on Queens of the Caribbean, but I shan't be demanding prescient points. However, I will have to insist upon Dadism Points, since I know that you stole gayer than an Easter bonnet from me.....

6. I got a girl named Sue

I was going to put Little Richard but, judging from the theme, the artists you're looking for are the gay ones

5 Point Bonus: What nearly caused Liberace's death back in 1963?

He was being poisoned by his body absorbing the dry cleaning fluid from his costumes

Or some such shit as that, I know it had to do with his stage outfits being dry cleaned. However, as one who basically grew up in a dry cleaners, I question the veracity of this story. Ha!

Fanny Fun Fact: This dramatic turn of events wasn't even the top story of the day, as it just so happened that he ended up in the hospital on November 22......
It's the Final Countdown.....
