CIA Director David Petraeus resigns because of affair
WASHINGTON (AP) - CIA Director David Petraeus resigns because of extramarital affair, according to the Associated Press.
According to his letter of resignation, Petraeus asked President Barack Obama on Thursday to allow him to resign, and on Friday the president accepted.
Petraeus said in a statement that he had shown "extremely poor judgment" in having an affair.
Petraeus and his wife have been married for almost four decades.
There is no word a replacement.

In an astounding coincidence, the President of Lockhhed Martin, who was about to be promoted to Chairman and CEO, had to resign because of an affair. The current Chairman just announced it in a letter to all employees.

And the Tea Party is sharing on Facebook that he resigned so that he does not have to testify about what happened in Benghazi. I would think that if his testimony was relevant, Congress would subpoena him regardless of whether he was still director or not.

And I would think that it would be far easier for Congress to compel testimony from a regular citizen than from a sitting CIA director.

There are reports that President Obama tried to talk him out of resigning and other reports that the FBI started the investigation when Ms. Broadwell sent e-mails characterized as harassing. --Bobkroxquo wrote:And the Tea Party is sharing on Facebook that he resigned so that he does not have to testify about what happened in Benghazi. I doubt that had anything to do with it; it was just coincidental timing. If it wasn't perhaps he didn't want to hurt his fellow Republicans in the election?silverscreenselect wrote:Interesting how he waits until after the election to resign.Bob78164 wrote:There are reports that President Obama tried to talk him out of resigning and other reports that the FBI started the investigation when Ms. Broadwell sent e-mails characterized as harassing. --Bobkroxquo wrote:And the Tea Party is sharing on Facebook that he resigned so that he does not have to testify about what happened in Benghazi. Re: CIA Director David Petraeus resigns because of affair
Here's the story of the FBI investigation by The New York Times. According to the story, the investigation began as a routine harassment complaint and swept Petraeus in by accident. Word of the investigation didn't even reach the Director of National Intelligence (Petraeus's immediate boss) until 5:00 p.m. Election Day, and didn't reach the White House until the following day.silverscreenselect wrote:Interesting how he waits until after the election to resign.Bob78164 wrote:There are reports that President Obama tried to talk him out of resigning and other reports that the FBI started the investigation when Ms. Broadwell sent e-mails characterized as harassing. --Bobkroxquo wrote:And the Tea Party is sharing on Facebook that he resigned so that he does not have to testify about what happened in Benghazi. On a personal level, I don't know anyone on the inside who is devastated he is leaving. Arrogant, condescending, egomaniac, verbally abusive, and (interestingly) dismissive of female subordinates. He was dramatically unpopular.
The real drain on morale will be yet another DCI transition...there have been way too many over the past few years. FBI Directors get a 10-year term. During that same time the CIA has had four DCI's and now Morrell twice as Acting Director. The amount of time and effort it takes to get a new DCI up to speed is massive--that is one reason so many are hoping that POTUS appoints Acting DCI Morrell to the job.

Paula Broadwell disclosed classified information in her recent speech at the University of Denver. It concerned why the Benghazi had been attached: To free three militia members that were being detained by the CIA.
The FBI visited Broadwell at her home in Charlotte earlier today.

Actually Broadwell wasn't home when the FBI entered it with a search warrant. They took away two computers and ten boxes of papers.Bob Juch wrote:Paula Broadwell disclosed classified information in her recent speech at the University of Denver. Now Gen. John Allen, Petraeus's successor, is under investigation for having "inappropriate communications" with Jill Kelley, the woman whose complaints to the FBI that Broadwell was sending her harassing emails started the whole thing. The FBI has 20,000 to 30,000 pages of them!!

It amazes me that the free world even still exists.......I mean since it's being run by the end of men's dicks. Jesus Christ! 20 to 30 thousand pages of emails from these "leaders" with the snatches they're sleeping with. God help us.

But the 20 to 30 thousand pages business amazes me. This supposedly took place over the course of two years, so there are at least 10,000 pages per year, which works out to nearly 30 pages a day. When did they ever have time for anything else?

Buff's comments make sense. To begin with, no love for high-ranking military in CIA (Admiral Turner anyone..), and if you have a DNI, you should promote from within to DCI; the only story to reach the international press about Petr's internal popularity was unhappiness with a plan for a new gym in headquarters --- together with military-style physical fitness requirements! (have to get a 20-year-serving desk analyst to play James Bond in his or her spare time...)Buffacuse wrote:On a personal level, I don't know anyone on the inside who is devastated he is leaving. DNI=toothless tiger. CIA/FBI, et al, say "Thanks for your interest in national defense," then do what they want, when they want.
20-30K e-mails in two years? She must be pretty high on the hot/psycho scale...
Not to mention, it might explain the success in Afghanistan. I mean, priorities comes to mind.
Finally, I wonder how many subordinates both Petreous and Allen punished for fraternization/adultery/etc under the UCMJ.
Different spanks for different ranks in action here.
Finally, the Marine's bit on the side is way hotter than the runner-girl.
Some humor on this - SNL: The title of the Petreous bio is "All In." The working title during the writing was "Just the Tip."
The staffs of the various four-stars around the military are constantly advised to "think like a four-star" when doing their staff work. The research for that must be interesting...
