Heads up! This is smenks13, I do believe. Nicely pocketed $20k! Shame about those WWOQs, I think I would have felt decent about locking in "drinking it" since that felt like the most unreasonable answer (does that make sense?), but way less so about the Titanic (I wouldn't think a menu from Napoleon's wedding would include anything with shrimp, and the pilgrims in all likelihood didn't even have a menu, but JFK's birthday is a wicked distractor) and Mao. Care to share any play-by-play thoughts, Scott?

hanzz - thanks for the support! I haven't seen the episode yet, so I'm not sure what they showed, but I said the exact same thing re: the pilgrims, that I don't think they made menus for the meal. I was wavering between titanic and Napoleon, I didn't think jfk's bday was a significant enough event. Btw, producer Geoff walked on stage and told me I had 5 seconds to make a decision: panic!!

Your visit from Geoff was one of the first things my wife told me about after a day in the audience.

That's a rough stack - even if you can tease out the Titanic (Titanic memorabilia always sells high, and it would make sense you'd get a big sale around the 100th anniversary), you can't really do it with enough confidence to risk that kind of money.

BTW, we were all legitimately bummed when you got called to play so quickly. That Maple Leaf Rag was sharp, and none of the rest of us dared attempt another song all day.

I knew Arsenio Hall had a TV show back in the day, but I thought it was a Rising Stars/ old-school America's Got Talent type show. Knew he won Celebrity Apprentice, but didn't make the connection. I'd never heard that "Woo! Woo!" before. Caught a lot of heat from this one.

Was totally on the wrong tack. I guess it's similar to online poker, an industry that is tied to Las Vegas, where US banks can't process payments to poker sites, but playing poker isn't strictly prohibited.

I started off by saying something like "Well we can eliminate drinking, as that was the main point of the amendment." Then I started to exhaustively talk through my answer, saying things like "I wonder if some forms of alcohol had other applications outside of drinking it, such as in research experiments, so maybe transporting it would be allowed." I was later told that exploring every possible answer choice and interpretation doesn't make for compelling television.

I didn't think the Pilgrims had menus, I didn't think JFK's 45th birthday party qualified as a famed meal. It took me a while to get there, then I said "The French eat some pretty weird stuff, so ox tongue would make sense. Then again, the Titanic probably had some fine meals." I guess I was hemming and hawing for a while, so I was told to count to 5 and make a decision. It honestly didn't make a difference because I wasn't leaning either way, and felt I could have made an argument for both. The 100th anniversary thing definitely has an impact in retrospect.

No strong feelings. I mumbled something about China having "good school systems", but I basically had no clue.

The most unforgettable part for me was hearing the crowd throughout. I distinctly remember hearing them cheer after having answered one correctly, raising my arms, and then hearing the noise level double. That was awesome. Really cool feeling.

Thank you! I'd say between 1 min 30 secs and 2 mins of thinking and talking it out. I'm thinking the issue was I got to the point where I was saying "Yeah it could be B. But then again, I guess it could be D", which we were explicitly told not to do (go back and forth without presenting new information). I started to hear some murmurs in the audience as well, which might have prompted the visit, or it could have been an indication they were ready to gouge their eyes out from boredom.

I'd use a JTQ on this question - the only one I could eliminate was Stalin.

It was a rough go, smenks, having to use two lifelines on the first two questions, but you kept plugging away. Sorry you couldn't have gone further but $20K is no small chunk of change.

I was going to play a few songs, but they called me to "go to the bathroom" and never called me back... I asked them whether I was going to get mic'd and come back or whatever, but they were just like "go pee", and then they walked me down to go on. Scott's performance was almost definitely better than what I was going to do though. (Nice job on the 20K to Scott, nothing "regular" about that)
