This is somewhere in the USA, but not in Hot Springs, AR.
So the topic is "Toto, we're not in Arkansas."

Please post where you think this (town or location) and the U.S. state.

Please spoilerize!

General info is in this thread:

The sign is my avatar until the early hours tomorrow morning; the larger photo shows the area around the sign.
Probably a toughie but I think it can be figured with the right knowledge so I do not expect a repeat of yesterday.

Although it was Googlable enough, but I fail to see what "knowledge" can be gleaned from the picture to figure this out.

But I await the results!

I blew the photo up but I can't read the street sign; it's out of focus. I can tell it has a New Mexico state route sign though. I'll therefore guess Truth Or Consequences, NM.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

OK, so I checked the scores thread and it looks like the only region we haven't hit yet is Southwest which is good 'cuz this place kinda reminds me of that Radiator Springs town on Route 66 in the movie Cars. I liked that movie. So that kinda narrows it down to Nevada, New Mexico or maybe Arizona. Since this doesn't quite look like Vegas and I don't really know why anyone would visit anywhere else in Nevada, I'm ruling that out. The city's got to be one we've heard of so I'm thinking Phoenix, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, or Albuquerque. I've been to the GC and this isn't near there as far as I know. This looks to small to be Phoenix. I could see it being Flagstaff b/c I think there's Spring Training there and I could see you visiting that, but you also said you've been like everywhere and where else would you go in NM if not Albuquerque, NM. If this is the best touristy pic of a state you've got, I've got to believe there's more interesting stuff in Arizona so I'm betting this isn't there.

Is that a yellow rear license plate on the car on right? Seems about time for a southwestern state, so I'll go with New Mexico for the state with a default guess of Santa Fe for the city.

I'll take it! I've never heard of Truth or Consequences but it's officially right up there with Intercourse, PA, Boring, OR (Sister City to Ithaca perhaps?), and Beer Bottle Crossing, ID for awesome city names.

Really? There's potentially a lot of detail in those background signs, but the resolution of the photo isn't high enough to read them. The sign with the pelican makes me think of the Pelican State, Louisiana, but I can't recall any hot springs there.

So...I can't think of any other towns called Hot Springs that might fit this photo, but there was that town that FDR used to go to to treat his polio: I'll guess this is Warm Springs, Georgia.

Spoiler
The big picture shows at least four signs in bright yellow and red. The silver car appears to have a bright yellow license plate. The red-tiled church in the background (if that is a church instead of a La Quinta Inn) is in a southwest mission style. For these reasons, I will guess this photo was taken in the state of New Mexico.

Where in New Mexico, I have no bloomin' idea.

But, you know, clem is a city boy, so when he looks at a majestic waterfall he probably just thinks that the landlord has neglected the plumbing leak in the upstairs apartment for too long. :P

The church has a southwest feel to it. And I think the car license plate looks like New Mexico from a distance.

So Hot Springs New Mexico. If there is such a place!)

Somewhere in the desert southwest. I see the Mission style tower, desert flora. West Texas, New Mexico, or Arizona.
The highway sign, can't be read, but the symbol is a circle. So not Texas.
Architecture of buildings look too drab to be Arizona. Must be in New Mexico, but where?
I see two large structures on the hill. Buildings, water towers?

I'll guess Carlsbad, New Mexico.

At first based on the golfer on the banner I was inclined to guess Augusta, Georgia, but I really think this is California. I'll take a shot at Whittier, California

I think the creek is generally too shallow for rafting. If you do try it, I'd recommend getting out before you reach the falls.

A few years ago, I was hiking the trail at Taughannock Falls State Park during an early spring thaw and some young guys were "surfing" down the creek on top of some large blocks of ice. That's another thing I wouldn't recommend, but it's up to you. :P
