#8: "Sedgeway!!!!"
Debuted: 10/7/10
One of my favorite newcomers to the Bored this year is our sweet little Amish girl Emily Rumspringa, who seems fascinated by the latest technology that her culture tends to shun. In one of those wild nights that make chat so fun, we somehow came up on the topic of Emily riding a segway (She would call it a Sedgeway, though), and it sparked the avatar creation light in my head. I wasn't sure Marley would be up to escorting Emily around, so I had ES hop aboard to be the chauffeur. Fanny provided the visual that Emily would be doing the "airplane arms" as she was being whisked around on this newfangled horseless carriage. It turned out quite well, and gave Emily something that heels still longs for.... an avatar appearance.....

I have loved this avatar since the first instant I saw it. There's something about the way the wind (okay, movement from the speed of the vehicle) blows back the fur on the faces and tails of ES and Emily that I find appealing, and I have no doubt that they are having fun. I suspect that Emily has a pretty good time with every new adventure she tries, and the same seems to be true of ES -- with the exception of his misplaced efforts to win Sprotsie Baby's heart.
Now generating the White Hot Glare of Righteousness on behalf of BBs everywhere.

I think a little nuclear weaponry would be in order.

#7: "Hurricane Mini"
Debuted: 9/1/10
Mini's one and only appearance in one of my ES avatars was inspired by the threat of Hurricane Earl bearing down on the mid Atlantic states back in early September. While mini tends to be something of a hurricane magnet, Earl turned out to be a bust..... but the same did not hold true for the avatar. There are a lot of things I like about this one, most notably the detail Sliver pointed out about the Sedgeway avatar, the way the Category 4 winds are blowing her fur around. She appears to be holding up much better on the battered beach than Jim Cantore, despite being attacked by the avatar's one glaring weakness, the crummy attempt to add foam to the waves....

#6: "Sweet Dreams"
Debuted: 4/9/10
On International Lefthanders Day back on August 13, Sprots stated that she was very righthanded... so I went searching through my collection of drawings to find something that would prove her wrong. What I found was this avatar..... and I only mention this because I not only completely forgot about this avatar's existence, but had no idea at all what the inspiration behind it was. As it turns out, it was an
unusually quiet Friday morning that led to its creation.... and the reaction I found in the thread helps justify my decision to place this one so high in the countdown. It's hard to believe that the creative process behind an avatar this good completely escaped me a mere four months after it was done, but that's why I keep this crap in its own album, so that Most Excellent Avatars like this will never be lost to history, and will have a chance to earn a much deserved spot in the countdown.....

This is NOT a most excellent avatar. It is horrible and phonied up beyond belief.
One bright spot -- Crawlspace Fanny will win!

I love the look of determination on Hurricane Mini, withstanding the storm!
If she isn't, I'm sure her kids are regretting that they're missing the big snowstorm today, while they're out in Arizona!

#5: "Matias McCool"
Debuted: 3/18/10
One of my favorite Matias avatars uploaded by Sprots, the cool dude in the car seat was just begging for some companions.... and it turns out, the ladies couldn't resist him. Rather than torture Sprots with another ES meets Matias picture, I instead allowed MBRS and Angel to be the traveling companions. After I found out that Sprots shared my Matias avatars with his mother, I decided to do a special picture for the Matias family, and there wasn't any doubt which picture I was going to re-create for them.... this one. I redid this picture on a larger scale, printed out an 8.5" X 11" copy, and sent it to Sprots, who then gave it to Matias for his birthday in October. A gift which I'm sure he'll be very proud of when he hits his teenage years.....

This one had to be in the top five! I will reserve judgment on whether it should have been even higher.

Just a quick note about the temporary new avatar -- that's Joey, Casey's sleepover friend for the next week while MatiasMom and Dad are in Phoenix. She's a real doll, but Casey is NOT happy with the arrangement.
I'll try to get a better photo later with both the little boneheads in the sunshine.
