Happy Groundhog Day!

#1 Post by silvercamaro » Sat Feb 02, 2008 10:53 am

That's easier for me to say than for the groundhog. He had to get up early and go to work.

FTR, his prediction for this area depends on precisely for which time he'd set his alarm clock, as the early morning was dark, cloudy and sunny, followed by intermittent cloudiness and bright sun.

Thanks a lot.

Now I probably won't be able to get "I Got You Babe" out of my head all day.

Just in case you want to sing along with your head, but can't remember all the lyrics....

[HER:] They say we're young and we don't know
We won't find out until we grow
[HIM:] Well I don't know if all that's true
'Cause you got me, and baby I got you

[HIM:] Babe
[BOTH:] I got you babe I got you babe

[HER:] They say our love won't pay the rent
Before it's earned, our money's all been spent
[HIM:] I guess that's so, we don't have a pot
But at least I'm sure of all the things we got

[HIM:] Babe
[BOTH:] I got you babe I got you babe

[HIM:] I got flowers in the spring I got you to wear my ring
[HER:] And when I'm sad, you're a clown
And if I get scared, you're always around
[HER:] So let them say your hair's too long
'Cause I don't care, with you I can't go wrong
[HIM:] Then put your little hand in mine
There ain't no hill or mountain we can't climb

[HIM:] Babe
[BOTH:] I got you babe I got you babe

[HIM:] I got you to hold my hand
[HER:] I got you to understand
[HIM:] I got you to walk with me
[HER:] I got you to talk with me
[HIM:] Igot you to kiss goodnight
[HER:] I got you to hold me tight
[HIM:] I got you, I won't let go
[HER:] I got you to love me so

[BOTH:] I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe

Groundhog Day was on television after FNGD, but I got about 10 minutes in before I fell asleep.

No groundhog in his right mind was out in our weather -- snowing again. At least it warmed up a little.

There's an old joke I don't remember exactly, but here goes --

If the groundhog sees its shadow, we get six more weeks of winter.

If it doesn't see its shadow, we get six more weeks of 10 degree spring.

Similarly, when I was a small child in Wyoming, I got excited when the groundhog saw his shadow on Feb. 2. "Oh, boy," I said. "Only six more weeks of winter. This year, finally, we'll have an early spring!"

Took me a second to get this.

And a third.

And a fourth.

And a fifth.

After the fifth, I started to think I had a sixth sense, before realizing that I just doidn't have any at all.

Better go sleep it off.

Why didn't Sonny ever ask about squishing groundhogs?

Nobody ever cares if I see my shadow or not....

I don't think there are many groundhogs around here, cause the weather here is beautiful, its supposed to hit 70 today,
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

All that matters is whether you see his shadow or not!
