Florida Prediction

#1 Post by NellyLunatic1980 » Mon Jan 28, 2008 1:33 pm

Romney will beat McCain by 2 points.

Mr. 9/11 will be fourth and that'll be it for his presidential aspirations.

Man does that sound like Ed or what. :D Really Nelly, I "heard" his voice when I read your comment.

On a political note, I am actually stunned today. Margaret and her sisters are all very staunch Democrats. Like I have said before, Margaret is the only one of the four to have ever voted for a Republican for any office and she did it for my boss--our governor twice and will do it for a third time in November.

What I am stunned about is that for the past 8 years all I heard from the sisters was what a great thing it will be to elect Hillary as our next president. I found out today that they are all supporting Obama.

Not a chance! McCain will win by at least 10 points.

The Republicans will also be happy to know that more people are supporting Obama.

It never fails to amaze and sadden me that the Democrats find ways to commit hara-kiri virtually every single Presidential election, and, as Ted Kennedy demonstrated today, they get downright giddy about doing so.

Obama's meteoric rise will come to a chugging halt in the general election when all his new-found "friends" in the mainstream media desert him, especially if John McCain is the candidate, and all the tough questions about his relations with Rezko, his present votes, his shifting positions, and his general lack of a specific agenda and means of accomplishing it, all questions that he is able to duck so far, thanks to his pals in the media, come back to haunt him.

People fail to see the power that Fox News has. Yes, it's right wing, but by reporting on stories over and over again, which I'm sure they will do with Rezko, who was arrested again today, they force the mainstream media to start covering them as well.

Of course, Fox and most of the right wing talk radio people have been generally quiet about Obama so far, but that will change come the general campaign. Expect half the delegates at the Republican convention to have badges with Obama's picture right next to Rezko's. And heaven help Obama if Rezko, who is Palestinian, has ever had any dealings with a group that the right wingers can link in any way to Islamic extremist groups.

People who think Obama is the wave of the future either haven't been around long enough to know better or are deluding themselves.

You will be pleased to know that I have read (or heard) the name "Rezko" more often by actual count from you, SSS, than I have from any other source. The next most common reference involved the photograph of Hillary standing next to Resko that surfaced after she was accusatory toward Obama for his acquaintance with the man.

I know you're a Hillary Clinton supporter, SSS, but has it occurred to you that every single criticism you claim Fox is going to make can be applied equally, if not more strongly, to Mrs. Clinton?

Substitute Norman Hsu for Rezko.

On "Present Votes": Talk about a manufactured issue. Hillary isn't allowed the possibility to vote "Present" in the US Senate, but she has "not voted" many, many times. So substitute "Not Voting" for Voting Present, and you have the same attack.

Shifting positions? Are you really serious? Sure glad Fox News can't attack Hillary on that one!

General lack of a specific agenda and means of accomplishing it: Again, Hillary brags about her policy and decision-making experience, but I have yet to see any major issue where her position is significantly more specific and more thought-out as to accomplishing it than Obama's.

Fox News isn't giving anyone a "pass." They're stirring up as much trouble as they can between all the Democratic candidates, because that's the only way a Republican is going to win in 2008. When you make posts like this, you're feeding their general strategy.

Rezko is unquestionably a bad apple and his current legal woes (he is scheduled to go on trial for extorting kickbacks and other federal racketeering charges in late February) are widely reported in Chicago, but he has received little attention nationally, in large part because the mainstream press hasn't made it an issue. Part of the money Rezko extorted was funnelled into Obama's 2004 Senate campaign (although there is no claim or evidence that Obama was aware of this at the time).

Rezko and his family have given over $200,000 to Obama over the years and the two have been associated for at least 17 years. Obama also purchased his house, at well below market prices, right next to a piece of land that Rezko purchased at the same time for market prices. Later, Rezko sold a part of his land to the Obamas to expand their home. This occurred before Rezko's indictment but well after it became public that he was under Federal investigation.

Obama as state senator wrote a number of letters on office stationery to city and state officials asking that Rezko be given favorable consideration for a major public housing project. Obama has also made a number of public appearances with Rezko at various functions where Rezko was trying to impress investors. Rezko has had a bad reputation as a slumlord for many years, failing to provide proper heat in his buildings and letting them fall apart from lack of maintenance. A number of them have been boarded up or foreclosed upon.

The photo of the Clintons was taken at a 1998 fundraiser for Senator Carol Braun which the Clintons attended and had photos taken with a number of Braun's contributors, including Rezko. In order to get his picture with the Clintons, he gave money to Braun, not the Clintons.

If this story were about Hillary, it would be front page news all over the place, but the press (except in Chicago) has put it on the backburner as much as possible.

They have made these accusations against Hillary, for years and years. Remember Whitewater and Travelgate and Vince Foster? And a lot of people hate her for it and won't vote for her.

The difference is that this stuff is all old news as far as the Clintons are concerned. It's just like dredging up any more of Bill's old girlfriends. Hillary has already lost all the votes she's going to because of this.

Obama hasn't. He is new; he is the hope of the future, and a lot of what he says is essentially asking people to take him on faith. The more it looks like he's just another Chicago politician, wanting to be a progressive community organizer while taking money from a slumlord who was victimizing the same community, he will lose a lot of respect.

Take away his aura, take away his vision, take away his notions of hope and change, and you have a very inexperienced politician who is fuzzy on a lot of issues. And by the end of a general election campaign, that's what he's going to look like for a lot of people.

That seems to be just about right.

Hillary has 7 years of her own political experience, at any level, unless we suddenly are counting First Lady duties as being good training ground nowadays.

I agree with SSS about the Democrats shooting themselves in the foot. I'm almost willing to go on record and say that it doesn't matter who the Democrats nominate - that person won't win. The "solid South" will remain solidly red - the Democrats need to win one or two states in that region, and there are a lot of people who will not vote for either an African-American candidate or a female candidate (the only two likely choices for the Democrats at this time).

The TV ads did not start here until yesterday.

I was surprised.

They are all over the place now.

There is also something else for people to vote for/against today. This surprised me. I will have to look up the homestead thing to see if I can convince my m-i-l to go to the polls.

It is interesting being down here listening to the oldster women.

They are taking offense to saying that Hillary, as her husband's partner, has no experience. More than a handful are outraged and taking it personally. I have heard women say something like "I am sick and tired of people telling me I had no experience while I was my husband's closest advisor."

I can tell you I have experience in running an optometric practice and a tree care company ( more than successfully). Just ask either husband, they will tell you that without me, they would not have taken many of the steps they took.

I am not taking offense to anything people say about Hillary's lack of experience. I just think you all are full of crap.

If the Democratic nominee wins Ohio in November, then how the deep South votes will be irrelevant.

Current polls do suggest that if Romney were the Republican nominee (which will be almost assured if he wins Florida today), several other traditionally red states (Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, and Virginia) can be winnable by either Clinton or Obama.

I haven't noticed any TV ads, yet, but I did get a call from the NRA last evening.

"When's the last time you had the chance to go out and do some shooting?"

"I don't own a firearm. Goodbye!"

Only after I hung up did I stop to think this was a campaign call and that I should have at least found out who they were campaigning for. But, hey, he had the nerve to interrupt me during WWTBAM!

Me: "I shot and killed the last person who asked me that question."

Somebody called Jeff on their personal telephone on behalf of Barack Obama. Jeff just hung up when they called, as he usually does.

If we were mean we could do nefarious things with their number, which showed up on caller ID.

I have a gun and Concealed Weapons Permit, so that puts me on some interesting mailing lists. The Ron Paul Campaign got that list, so I got at least 3 calls from the Paul campaign mostly wanting me to know that John McCain wants to take my gun away.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
