Matias had to be #1, or I'd have been run off the Bored......

And me and ES put a premium on loyalty.... and you've been at my mercy for a decade now....

How continual threats of squishment and dismemberment translate into loyalty is beyond me . . . but you guys are weird . . . Ody says so . . .

ES knows they are just empty threats. In fact, I think he sees it more as flirting than anything.....

Should he by some miracle ever get past the permanent restraining order, he will see how much can be regarded as "threats" and how much as "reality."

Squirrels are the architects of forests, the planters of trees, nature's own acrobats and show a zest for life that can inspire us. Every day should be National Squirrel Appreciation Day!

--squirrelmama (10/3/07)

Many of these (squirrel) migrations were probably caused by food shortages as well as habitat overcrowding. We solved that for them. We not only reduced their habitat, we reduced the whole species by about 90%. The least we can do now is share a little birdseed with them.

Sorry, Sprots. I love the #1 avatar! It is just so squishably cute! The wraparound is perfect. It's just precious.

However, I will leave it to you whether it's scritch-worthy.

Tennis Guy posted an article about a man who reached the 40 gallon mark for blood donation. Sprots made the mistake of saying she was working on her 16th gallon donated. That just opened up the door for ES to come up with this little avatar, one which not only got the usual reaction from Sprots, but had the doubly wonderful effect of actually being called out by several people on the Bored as really cute. And the key was in something I added merely as an afterthought..... the wave. It always amazes me what things people notice, both good and bad, in my drawings that I really didn't give much thought to... and this may be my favorite one of those little unexpected details. Fanny provided the line that became this avatar's title, and it was even used for the edition title of the rankings that week....

lb13
Not that I want to re-live the avatar rankings, but I can't resist telling y'all about something United Blood Services does. If you donate at least three times during a year, you're guaranteed a prize. First, everyone is entered into a drawing for a Harley. which I did not win. Then there are some "lesser" prizes, like bicycles, I-pods, that type thing, which I also did not win. Everybody else, including me, gets a calendar with her/his name in the coolest designs! I'm gonna scan one in and use it as an avatar. Maybe all six of 'em.

I could have sworn there were more months in the calendar? Or is this a Mayan earlybird

So you've been following the countdown for 2 weeks now and wondered why the hell there were no Matias avatars in it yet. Well, I probably could have easily had all five Matias avatars I did in the Top 10, but in fairness to everything else, I merely chose the best one, and the one I think the Bored liked the best, and this was definitely the one. The fourth of my five Matias avatars, and one of two whose ideas were PM'ed to me by ES's fans. This one came courtesy of Holly (that's Second Chance for those of you who don't pay attention!), who thought Sprots' new avatar of Matias looking all happy in the snow was just begging for a picture of ES in his arms getting ready to plant a big ol' kiss on him. ES was even kind enough to keep him warm by wrapping his bushy tail around Matias. It sure seems to have made Matias happy, and Sprots was practically ecstatic!

Congrats ES and Matias for getting the number one slot! You two may now ride off into the sunset together......

. . .

lb13
Sprots was NOT "practically ecstatic." She almost levitated at this misrepresentation of Matias's relationship with mangy rodents.

I admit that I did forget the BB reaction to the Matias avatars, and it also escaped me that he didn't get earlier in the Top 13. There actually was no doubt in my mind that Hooly would get the top spot.
hee hee hee. Aw c'mon, those Matias ones are adorable! The kid's so darn cute - he's simply being honored by such devotion from the young squirrel. I loved em all, but was really tickled to see The Hug. The Floater absolutely cracked me up I must admit. Fun run, beast!

I wish! I've already started telling my Toastmasters friends that I'm giving my final speech on Dec. 21, 2012, because there won't be a Dec. 22.

But it's totally prosaic. They put two months under every picture.
